Check for all connections one more time.

Serpentine belt might be too loose.

    Good luck

Have the alt tested there not very good do you have 12 volts going to the big wire on the alt and with key on you should have it to a small wire going to the regulator to turn it on

I have a 1999 ford ranger that wasn't charging and had a new battery, good alternator and every was fine. The alternator was not outputing any elec. I checked the wires at the harness and they didn't have anything going to it. I traced it back to the 175 amp fuse next to the fuse box under the hood. It had power on both sides of the fuse but when I took it apart and put it on the ohm meter it showed nothing. After fixing that the alt worked. Then I noticed #17 fuse blown in the cab. That controls the radio, cig lighter, datalink cable, and I think that is all. I traced that back to the cig lighter. I disconnected that and reinstalled the fuse in the dash and radio then everything worked fine. Not sure what caused what but I suspect the lighter maybe failed. I don't use it but I don't know what else it could have been. Hope this helps anyone.

Briefly installed battery backwards. 2000 Ford Ranger. New Battery, new alternator, but alternator not charging battery. Truck starts on battery-new starter motor. Lights work, all electrical works

Is this the alternator that was in the vehicle when you hooked the battery up wrong? If so, you probably blew out the voltage regulator in the alternator.

2000 Ford Ranger is killing alternators immediately after install

the best way to test an alternator is with a load test-partstores dont do that--battery may still have a bad cell even tho it tested good--an alternator can burn up charging a completely dead batt--make sure batt reads at 12.6volts and no less-----if it reads say at 12.3 its only 50% charged!

2000 ford ranger alternator wont charge battery

Alternators do go bad..... You can have a local parts store test it for you, they will likely do that for free.

I have a new alternator, new battery but will not charge . dash gauge shows low charge.

To verify if gauge is accurate, take to local autozone (or any good parts store) and have them do FREE charging system test and to load test your battery - both are free services.

2000 ford ranger. New battery and brand new alternator. Alternator only puts out 11 volts and wont charge the battery. Is there a fuse or relay that would cause this? I assume that it would not put out any...

there are three wires on the alternator.one of them is a feedback circuit to switch on the alternator. There is a fusible link which looks like regular wire, but it is like a fuse and is either 14 16 or 18 gauge .If the alternator was bad it could have blown that open.

2000 Ranger, new rebuilt alternator, new battery -

Jump start this truck if possible and do this with a volt meter. While the engine is running connect the red terminal of the volt meter to the negative terminal of the battery. Take the black probe to the volt meter and connect it to the positive terminal of the battery. The reason why is to test the diode if its any good. If you get a reading of voltage the diode is bad and will not let the altenator charge your battery. The diode is made for DC current to run one direction. If runing both ways no charge will be directed to the battery
