Question about 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
When I turn key to "on" everything is normal...lights come on guages come on etc. When I turn the key to "start" everything goes dark and nothing happens. When I release the key back to "on" the lights and guages come back on. Vehicle did this about 3 months ago. Had to get a wrecker to tow it in. When the vehicle rolled of the wrecker the mechanic got in and it started right up. The battery is good.
You need to clean your battery conections, there is likely a lot of corrosion in the positive cable. Put on your rubber gloves and eye protection take out a tooth brush or small wire brush, baking soda, water a small disposable container (butter cup) and an 8 mm or 5/16 inch wrench. disconect the neg battery cable inspect it, remove the "BOLT" it is fitted into the rubber tight but if you push and stretch it it will come out, clean it with the a baking soda and water mix. about 3 table spoons of baking soda to a cup of water, it should be a little thick, but not as thick as toothpaste. scrub till it shines adn rinse with water. do the same for the positive cable, seperate the two cables and clean all surfaces. to reassemble, conect positive side first and neg side last. whala starts every time.
