Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

1997 Dodge Dakota 2WD with A/C. 135000 miles. Blower fan stopped working after a period of working intermittently. How do I replace it? It seems to be buried behind the dash and the ventilation air handling plenum.

Already did that...no cure for the problem. I even tried to jump the fan directly to a 12 V source and the fan ran irregularly for a few seconds, then quit. Then, the fan would not restart no matter what...

The resistor on my 97 is located in a hole in the firewall, below the windshield. Accessed by - 1, removing the wiper arms, 2, removing the plastic cowl cover 3, contorting your body to lay prone on top of the engine, 4, blindly reaching into the aforementioned hole, trying to locate the two bolts that hold the resistor in place, 5, smashing several knuckles 6, unplugging the resistor after getting it out. 7, ordering a new one and waiting three days 8, going through the above contortions in reverse 9, smashing your freshly healed knuckles -again!!!- and finding out that the fan still doesn't work even after replacing the resistor (which I did)

Wait, before you change that blower motor try replacing the blower motor resistor. It is located on the fire wall on the passanger side, under the hood. Should cost about 10 to 12 dollars and take about five minutes.Dakota's seem to go through these regularly.

should be just above the blower motor. You will need to remove the glove box door to gain access.

If the blower fan is not operational, check fuses. If the blower fan was working but all fan speeds were not working, possible fan motor resistor. You can try slapping on the botttom of the passenger dash area with the fan motor in the on position with the palm of your hand to see if that will activate the motor. If it does, the motor will need replacement.

First, check the fuse. If that is good, chances are the blower motor is in need of replacement.

The blower motor in my 1989 Dodge Dakota suddenly stopped working. Will not blow anything on any speed or on hot or cold!

Have you checked for a blown fuse first. There are two fuse control panels - one under the driver's dash board and one in the engine compartment. The one in the engine compartment should have the blower fuse. If the fuse is good, check the blower relay (this is also in the engine compartment). The cover to the fuse box has a diagram of the fuse locations and descriptions. "BLWR" is usually used for blower.

It's located right at the bottom of the dash all the way at the far right of the passenger seat. 3 bolts and an ungodly tight clip on the wires are all that hold it in place

I have a 1998 Dodge 1500 why does the heater/ac blower motor only work on high, do I need to replace the motor?

The motor is fine, the blower resistor is the most likely cause. All fan speeds except high go through the resistor.
