Hi I just bought an 85 (not 90) honda crx. I have not registered it yet and I knew the person who had it. He drove it everyday, did all the work to make it pass inspection and I do have one problem though. I usually have to use one of those battery jumper things that plugs into an outlet to jump it everyday to get it started and when it starts i have to hold the gas down for a while to keep it running. Once it gets warm though, most of the time while I let it idle, it will just about stall and catch itself and keep making that ree ree ree ree while the rpm needle goes up and down around the 1, like it keeps catching itself from stalling. I dont trust mechanics, and I dont knwo much about this- I dont know if I need an alternator, battery, or what. Does this sound familiar?
What sounds like is a failing battery plus the reving is cause by the sensor in the air flow meter, for that buy a can of air flow cleaner and clean the air flow meter and all the intake system.

Let me rephrase that, I dont mean I dont trust any mechanic, but it seems that every time I bring my car around here to get looked at, everything including a tuneup is at least 450 dollars and I know this is just not correct. I didnt mean to offend you, or anyone else that helps answer these questions, like I said, I just dont trust the people that work in any of the shops around here becuase they try to take us girls for a fool. Can you help me figure this out?
We are mechanics that answer these questions, so I guess I am not going to answer this one.
