Question about 2002 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

Automatic transmission frozen

I've had a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant for 3.5 years. This season when it turned cold, the battery was having a little trouble turning over, but would start. I didn't have time to deal with it as I was leaving on vacation. After returning from vacation 12 days later (and the car sitting in below freezing weather while I was gone), the battery will now not turn over at all. I'm assuming I need a new one which is no problem, but in addition I am no longer able to shift the car out of park. Can the transmission freeze in cold weather? Does this cause additional problems? Is there a way to thaw it? Will getting a new battery and letting it run also fix the transmission problem? Thank you for any insight.

U can't shift it out of park because the battery is dead, park is locked until the brak lights are activated (no power no lights), this 12 volt brak light signal un-locks the park solenoid.

If automatic transmission, it may be transmission fluid. Lots of cars have the transmission cooler in the radiator.

Can changing batteries in a a galant cause the transmission to go out?

it is automatic transmision they have a small switch neutralsee the diagram, repair or replace+please review the FUSE or c.breaker if is tripped or blown. Of course you must shure the batteries the polarity is GOOD, the RED wires is + must be with the post +battery and black wire is - , must be with the post - otherwise you must change the polarities, remember this current continues NOT AC.

I changed the battery in my 2002 galant and now my transmission went out

see the diagram:
1) the polarities must be red wire+ must be with the terminal + for batteries + and black wires with the - post batteries. The small switch Neutral for automatic transmission can be faulty or bad adjust. repair. The polarities can be equal this current continues NOT AC. Not change the polarities, of course test the c.breaker or fuse and reset or replace. see the diagram.

How many liters of transmission fluid needs 2.4L engine? 2002 Mitsubishi Galant.

Hello, After you've replaced the trans filter and pan gasket, pour 3 Qts ATF into the fill tube and start the car. With your foot on the brake, move you gear selector from park to low and pack to park again. Leave the car running in park and check the trans fluid level. Normally after a service your transmission should take about 4 Qts, but it's easier to add more than take some out if you overfill it. Top it off to the bottom of the fill mark. As your transmission temp rises, your ATF will expand and your fluid level will rise. At that point it will be at the top of the fill line. Hope this helps, James Booth. PLEASE RATE THIS!!! :))

Car Shuts Off when A/C is Turned On

i think you have a stuck compressor. check the clutch plate of the compressor. use a wrench to turn the nut at the center of the clutch. see if the plate turns either way. it should..if it does not turn, then it is frozen.

tnx 4 using fixya,
