The heater is always on and on very hot. The climate/temp control has no effect on the air. If I by-pass the heater completely I can get AC. I was thinking maybe it's the blend door control but I don't know the car that well. Please Help.
I have narrowed the problem to a non-functioning climate control acctuator (a mechanical vent door opening/closing unit that mixes warm and cold air) Unfortunately it is located high in the dash and requires entire removal of dash panel. Shop repair manual states a repair time of 5.2 hours... GM parts $260 actuator $75 door panel......Online parts $60 to $175

It sounds like the system is fried. Based on the description, it is just pulling in the outside air and not doing anything to heat or cool the flow. Unfortunately, this is a job for your preferred mechanic.
There may be a vacuum leak,in the control head,or the supply to it or even to one of the vacimn motors that controls door opening! The vaumn reservoir may be leaking and or the check valve! Does it cool ok at idle or at low speeds and partial throttle opening?
98 olds. bravada. alternator and battery played out, so i installed both new ones easy money.the problem it created was my a/c damper door constantly opens and closes no matter what you turn the controls to. its working as far as the a/c but the air mix door want stay in the position it needs to stay in to keep getting cold air. i have checked every thing i possibly can. just so you know all was working perfect untill i had to put the battery and alternator on it. please help my truck gas mileage sucks, and the bravada is tolerable but cant its hot in va.
Had same problem. Take off both hoses to the heater core at the fire wall. Using a garden hose with nozel flush with water on the "inlet hose" first(the one hot to touch) then flush the other side. A nasty blackish slim will come out. Oh, cover your distributor with a plastic bag first so it won't get wet. Put the hoses back on, set heat for full high and enjoy your nice warm bravada again!
Had a friend with a simular problem, and as it turned out for him was he had climate control heating which means drivers side climate could be set at 72 degrees and passenger side set at 72 degrees or what ever desired temp, when selecting the temp for the passenger side it would always be cold,
as he found out when operating the heater controls the littles doors the direct the airflow were stripped out under the dash, he took it to a dealership and they were able to oder the peices to fix the pivots for the doors.
