Question about 2004 Ford Taurus

04 Taurus will not turn over and start

I have been stranded three times!!!! I have had the car in the shop 2 times in the last two and half weeks. First, they said it was a bad battery, even though the battery was only three years old! The next time they said a bad relay switch. Now, today here I sit again on the side of the road and it won't start. The lights, radio, etc. work, so I don't think it is the battery or alternator, but there is nothing when I try turn the engine over. If you let the car sit for a while and come back, it starts sometimes. Any ideas what could be causing the problem. I am losing confidence in the mechanic that my husband has chosen to use. I am tired of being stranded!!!!!

I have the same problem with my 04 Taurus. About 2 months ago, my car was taking several attempts to start. Repair shop replaced the cam shaft sensor and when that didn't work, they replaced the speedometer cluster. Now the car sometimes won't start and the anti theft light blinks. I was stranded last night. Is there a way to disarm the anti theft? Highly doubt anyone wants to steal my car and at this point, the thief would be doing me an enormous favor!!!

I have the same problem as this person!Up until yesterday, the car will start just fine , then, it will not start. It will not turn over, although all the accerssories work, lights. radio, horn, power windows, everything except the starter to turn the engine over'. It will crank in the morning but not in the afternoon. Is this because the car was made by a "Union"?? LOL

The problem is the stater i have been having the same problem. To check next time this happens have someone turning the key to start the car and someone tapping on the starter with a hammer form the top part of the car. The car will then start. The starter is located below the oil filter.

For "cedwards247" even though you may think the aternator is good have it tested anyways to be on the safe side and you can do this yourself by getting the car started maybe with someone jumping it and once started take the positive side cable off the battery and if it stays running then yes the alternator is good but if it dies then it is the alternator if it stays running then it sounds like it could be the starter and for "guest" I would recommend doing the same thing to your alternator also and see if this helps your

Ford taurus air compressor

Ask if the system was checked for leaks. Not just die checked but by actually hooking up gauges and watching. The system could be pulling in air ( and moisture) after being shut down. This is unlikely. But when you eliminate the obvious you have to start looking at the unlikely.

Replaced egr valve plugs and wires 02 ford taurus se and it still wont start

Those three items have nothing to do with starting

You can start a car on half it's cylinders, except a 4 cylinder

The wires should last 15 years or more and
would have to be pretty bad to not allow a car to start

Have you checked for codes?

Listened for the fuel pump &
checked pressure with a gauge?

What lead up to the no start?

Is it a motor with a timing belt that slipped or broke?

Hi, usually one of 2 sensors cause that. The camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. Usually the latter. Does it have the no-start condition more when the motor is hot or has been running? Or is it just anytime cold or hot?
Crankshaft sensor is notorious for hot non starts and wont always leave a code. Reply with more info if you like. Does engine also run rough or lack power? Mike

2005 Taurus Check Brake System Flashes Then Car Dies

I won't go into a long technical explanation of how todays high tech vehicles work.
You want to know what to do.

You can not fix this yourself. Period.

You need to take the Taurus to a repair shop. You do not need to go to the dealer

They will charge you a diagnostic fee to scan your vehicle, then quote a price to repair

My '99 Ford wagon has been dying in idle for 7 months. Now it won't start, clicks when I turn key but won't start. I've noticed the "theft" light has been on for about 2 weeks when I'm driving, no idea...

Sounds like the anti theft system might need to be reprogramed. Anti theft will shut the car down and will not let it turn over and will cause the car to cut out. Also sounds like you need an alternator. Sounds like the probelms are related. You need to have the computer scanned and get the codes so you can have a better idea of what the problem is.

Engine shaking after timing belt replaced

No repair should only last three weeks...don't touch anything and have the shop that did the work come and get it. I have lots of ideas but it will need to be checked over to verify them. Rather than comment on the "maybe" of this, have them check it out. Any reputable shop will be more than willing to do what's needed...Bad jobs ruin that reputation!
