Brake light stays on battery light on

I was driving down the freeway and i already know that i have a powersteering leak in the hose, but all of the sudden the emergency brake light came on and the battery light came on and the heater just quit working all together. i have looked under the hood and the battery is connected fine and the brake has been set and released a few times, but it still stays lit.

Check all of your fuses and check the fluid level in the master cylinder and also make sure there are no leaks in the brake system

  • Walter Morris Dec 09, 2008

it should if not make sure you have a good coolant level because if it is low it wont put out heat. you will either have to buy a new hose or if the leak is small you might be able to put some stopleak in it

The battery light is the indicator that tells u that the Alternator has stopped charging, this is most likely the reason for the other problems, mainly low voltage from no alternator output, go to any Kragen auto or store like it and have the charging system tested, (it is free) don't drive a long ways it will quit on U.

This will not fix the leaking hose, it will fix the heater most likely.

You will have to raise & support the vehicle

Remove the injector fuses-- so it won't start

Remove the power steering cooler return hose at
reservoir & add a hose to a bottle under vehicle

On a Honda you need Dealer Only Fluid & add to
container, then crank the motor to flush out the brake fluid

It may work or it may have damaged the seals in the entire
system

Why add fluid in the first place

No systems uses fluid--so is there a leak to be repaired

If flushing it works-- add the Lubgard Purple (Honda Only)
& Yellow Bottle additive or whatever the dealer has

The problem is most likely in the vacuum booster. It has a valve inside when slight pressure is applied to the pedal, applies vacuum boost to the master cylinder aiding the operator in braking. If you notice applying the brakes several times with the engine off, the pedal will harden in the same fashion. With a malfunctioning internal valve the booster can apply the vacuum boost when not needed.

You have what they call a hydro boost system, the power steering pump give power steering assist, and give power brakes, so if your power steering hose looses fluid you get not power steering and no power brakes, So check the power steering hose for leaks if there is no leaks replace the powersteering pump

Sounds like a vac leak, could be the power brake booster or a hose.

Severe powersteering leak. can I drive with bad leak or no fluid?

if its a slow leak yes. but if its squeeling I wouldn't. My 98 nissan could hold the fluid for about two weeks. could be as simple as tightnening a hose.

THE FIX IS THIS:

Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Leak under car (front driver's side)

What is the colour of the oil? Power steering oil will be red in colour or match it with the oil from powersteering oil reservoir. Its easy to locate powersteering pump. as it is driven by drive belts. So look around it and check for leaks. If no leaks, follow the hoses as far as you can and see if you can find leaks. You can also get underneath the car with a light and try to trace the leak.
