Question about 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Rear defroster and wiper stopped working

After having my 4runner serviced (new battery and air filter), I noticed my rear defroster and wiper stopped working. It was in working order before the service, and the rear window still works. I have checked the fuses but do not know what else to check. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A week ago I replaced my original battery, and discovered a day or two later that my Back Window Wiper no longer worked.
Checked the problem there. Went out to the Web, did a search, found this Site and this was the 2nd Problem noted on the site. Went out lower my Back Window as suggested, raised it, check my Rear Window Wiper...and it WORKED!!
I just wanted to say "THANK YOU" to FixYa, iswilson_co and Toyota guy's Made My Day!!

Thanks. I had the same problem on my 2005 4-Runner and I just rolled the back window down and back up and it worked. Saved me alot of time and money!

The power from the rear wiper and the defroster is stopped unless the rear window is fully raised. Lower the window, and re-raise it. See if this helps eliminate the problem, and then let me know.

Thanks. This fix just work on my 08 4runner. Same deal, got a oil change & battery over the weekend and rear defrost & wiper would not work. Garage claimed it had nothing to do with a new battery. Rolled rear up 2xs now evrthings works. Craig in Chicagoland

I swaped my rear hatch on my 96 4runner for a 98 and its not working properly the power window is running all the time and when i depress the sencer it stops and when i push the button to the down...

Obviously the wiring between the two units is not the same. That's your problem. Check the wiring on the old door and compare it to the new door.

My rear wipers, rear washer and rear defrost stopped working. I have changed the fuses. what else would cause these 3 to stop?

I had the same problem, 97 4 runner. I followed #1 solution: start engine, lower rear window, raise/close rear window. Turn off engine, restart engine and it should re-set. It did for me.

Which fuse is for the rear window wiper and rear window defogger on 2003 Toyota 4Runner (V6)?

You Have one fuse for the wipers in the car. Left side of steering wheel and the back cover should list the fuses and location. The other box is located in the engine compartment above the battery. They should list the fuse locations under the compartment covering the fuses. Hope that helps

2004 4runner rear wipe blade and fluid just stopped working, is there an easy fix for this or should i take to dealer

If your rear wiper, fluid wash, and rear defrost stopped working at the same time try this first before taking it to the dealer. Start the 4Runner and lower the rear window glass. Wait a few seconds and raise the rear window. Turn the engine off and wait a few seconds. Restart the engine and see if this helps. I had the same problem after I had my drive belt replaced and the shop disconnected the battery cable. When the battery cable is disconnected it causes the rear wiper, fluid wash and defrost to stop working. Good luck!

My 4 runner rear window wiper, washer and defroster won't work after pressing window down button on remote control. Any suggestions?

Just wanted to pass this on. My rear wiper and washer would not work. Solved problem by raising and lowering rear window. The rear window in the cold weather had dropped just low enough that the safty switch would not let the washer and wiper come on. Got this idea from the internet.

2004 4Runner Rear Wiper and Defroster won't work

I just had the same problem. I have an '04 4Runner and my rear wiper, fluid wash, and defrost stopped working after it was recently serviced. If you had the battery cables disconnected recently here is the solution...Start the engine and lower the rear tailgate window all the way... close the rear window and then turn the engine off. Restart the engine and the wiper, wash, and defrost. should work again. It has something to do with the computer which needs to be rebooted. Good luck.

Toyota 4runner gate window, wiper, and keyless entry not working

make sure the back window is all the way up then try the wiper, if it still does not work then it is a sensor for the rear window (about $30.00) if you installed it yourself
