the rear differential has gone bad and needs to be replaced you can try removing the inspection cover and checking for metal shavings if they are present then defiantly rear end has gone bad

BOBCAT V417 RUNS BUT HAS NO FORWARD OR REVERSE

it is possible that while the brake light is on then there will be no drive action as the hydraulics will be isolated by the brake system. Check the reason for the brake light on and you may find the reason for no drive.

2002DodgeRam1500 quad cab, when I drive in reverse,to park, when I hit the brakes a noise comes out like an old drum brake ,except mine are disc brakes. The pads are thick and even.Any ideas

well if your brakes are working well i would ignore it but if brakes don't work well i would take pads off the rear brakes and lubricate the slides and also put some behind the pad plate where the piston touch's the pad!! when u put brakes on going forward the pads slightly move forward and then when you go backwards it moves even more and i think thats what causing it!

My 2002 mercury mountaineer have no problem going forward but it seen like when i put it in reverse the back wheel lock and it out out a funny smell

It sounds like you have a loose brake shoe inside one of your rear axle brake drums. You will have to remove the rear wheels and brake drums to find out for sure.

Won't go back

If your vehicle is fitted with automatic gear box sounds that you are going to loose the transmission. For not going on reverse like having locked wheels,I believe looks like the brake bands in the gear box are the reason and the minimal power you have for forward drive are the clutches which are slipping. Visit an experts shop and please do not force it.

My rear brake is locked while trying to sell the car, and the buyers mechanic is saying it will cost him 800.00 to fix. How do I unlock the brakes myself so that I can sell this really nice car? the car...

Hey there. This could be a few different things. I would start with the E brake. the cable could be locking the rear brakes. Are the rear brakes disc or drum brakes? If they are disc the calipers are held on with two bolts but more than likely they are drum brakes. There are a number of things that can break in a drum brake. There is usually 3 seperate springs that can break. As well as an adjutment for the tension on the shoes. The e brake retaining clip, the retaining clip for the shoes,
etc. A good thing to go and get is a Repair Manual for the car. It will have a diagram of your brake setup. New hardwear and shoes are usually easy to get if somthing is broken.
Start by pulling off the tire and try to remove the drum, If they are locked up as bad as it sounds you will probly need to use some force. Now on some cars there will be two bolt holes, you can use rhem. You will need to find two bolts that fit the threads then you tighten them down evanly, this will press the drum off the cae so you can see what is binding up your rear brakes. That shoul get on the right track to getting it fixed. Any questions just ask. Have a good day.

Back passenger rear wheel is locked

It sounds more like your rear end has a bad bearing or a bad pinion gear. If it has high miles it may be time for a rebuild. It could be brake related also, take off the back drum and see if anything is rattling around in there or broken. If your not hitting the brakes they shouldn't engage.

It sounds like a problem with the reverse gear and you're probably going to have to have a transmission shop look at it,I'm assuming it locks when it's running and you shift into reverse.
