air bags only deploy when needed. just because you wrecked doesn't mean they should have deployed. it all depends on speed and inertia. obviously, you lived so the bags didnt need to deploy. feel lucky they didnt have to, they are like getting punched by mike tyson on a bad day
Can you? Yes. Should you? No. The SRS (supplemental restraint system) light is on because there is a problem with the Air Bags system. Your air bags may or may not deploy in an accident. They could even deploy prematurely. So, you need to have this looked into ASAP. It is very hazardous to work on this system so I recommend you have this repaired by a professional.
u dont as tneubauer and emissionwis state dangerous to be fooling around with airbag system if light on have vehicle scanned some auto store such as auto zone / advanced auto scan for free the code can give u a place to start -but unless ur a tech who has dealt with air bags dont mess around with connections or even dash -bring to auto tech or dealer for repairs-- with light on driving can be hazardous because bag or bags can deploy
A service air bag light means that the bag may not deploy in case of an accident so you need to take it back to the dealer and have it repaired. Check your warranty, air bags and seat belts sometimes have a longer warranty than the rest of the car.
If the air bag light is on there is a problem with the air bag. The light means the air bags will not deploy in an accident. Only a qualified tech should work on air bags.
Something is wrong with the SRS. This is not a DIY repair. Take it to a professional for repair. They will reset the light after repairing it. Otherwise the air bag may not deploy in an accident or may deploy at any moment. Don't take the risk. Get this fixed
When the light is on all the time there is a problem in the air bag system. This is something you will want to take to a service center soon, as long as the light is on the air bags will not deploy in an accident.
I hope for your sake that it is some external electrical hiccough since they are extremely costly to replace.
The fact it didn't deploy however is disturbing.
I suggest you have the stored error code read out with a code scanner; the theft of these things has exploded and it is not uncommon to find used vehicles sold with bags missing.
Please don't try to find this problem yourself; the controls for the bags is fussy and it is not unknown to have them activate by accident while trying to service related areas.
SRS stands for "supplementary restraint system" which can be either automatic seat belts or air bags. I'm gonna go with air bags on your car. The reason the light is on is due to the fact that the air bag computer has sensed a problem with a component in the system. I would strongly recommend that you take it to a dealer for a scan, inasmuch as the air bags may fail to deploy on impact if there is a problem in the system.
