Question about 2002 Jeep Liberty
All of a sudden my 3.7 ltr Liberty began knocking badly. I took it in for a tune up and oil change since it was due and the problem has actually gotten worse. Power is fine, oil level is normal, but the sound is horrible. Literally sounds as if it were empty inside. My oil sensor light has not turned on either. I'm very concerned. It has 107,000 miles on the clock.
A loud knocking sound could be a variety of things. On the top of the list is Bad connecting rod bearing and main bearings in the bottom end of the engine. Bad lifters may also be a problem. I had to burst your bubble but a loud noise in your engine, like you describe may be alot of pre-mature internal engine wear may be cause by lack of maintenance. You should have it check by a professional before you invest money into fixing it. Remember if the cost of the repairs exceeds that retail value of the vehicle. Its time for a new one. Good Luck
