Question about 1998 Ford Escort

2001 Ford escort zx2 wants to die while idling

My check engine light has come on, it cannot sit and idle in drive without sputtering and wanting to die. While in park it is not as bad. It has had a new battery, new plugs. Any ideas or suggestions?

The check engine light indicates a problem. You need to have the codes read. Most parts stores do this for free. Write down the codes and ask them what they mean, and what u should do. You can come back here if u need more info.

I doubt the two problems are related.
The computer uses an idle speed control valve to regulate idle speed. The valve controls the amount of air entering the intake.
You should have a check engine light on and also a stored trouble code for the valve. It could also be a problem with the throttle plate in the throttle body.

When car is running idle or at slow speeds it makes a squeaking sound

There are several heat shields that can squeak or you could just need a new serpentine belt. Unfortunately, a lot of things can cause a 'squeak' but without knowing what area it comes from, if it changes with engine speed, or vehicle speed, I can't give you any pinpoint information.

2002 zx2 service engine light comes on and when scanned it says lean fuel? Could this be the fuel filter?

It is probably the PCV hose. The elbows on them are soft and often develop holes and allow un-metered air in and cause a lean condition. Usually the car drives fine but could idle low or die at stops. You can order a new PCV hose from Ford for about thirty bucks.

My cars air heating wownt get hot unless i am driving. if im at a light it just gets colder

its possible the water pump needs replacing. The blades could be defective. Hows the engine temp. does it get hot at idle some times if sitting too long. This could be an indicator.

I have a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 with approx. 103000 miles on it. The "service engine soon" light is on and when you stop at a stoplight/sign the RPMs drop really low and the car bucks like it is going to...

You didn't call off the code they found but O2 sensers effect a lot of driving but not the idle. High or low fuel pressure a vacume leak an air bypass motor stuck shut or bad. are more likly . The auto zone guys are great but their not mechanics. Their story is change parts till you fix it and they want to sell as many parts that you'll buy

2003 Ford Escort ZX2 2.0L engine knock and no power.

Get yourself a compression tester and remove all spark plugs and proceed to check the compression for this motor the readings should all be above 110 psi, the car may have jumped a tooth on the timing belt and requires a new belt to be installed.

@1000rpm car idles good, under 1000rpm,engine has rough idle, even cuts off at stop light or stop sign

you may want to check your Idle Control Solenoid Valve if it needs cleaning. This is a common issue. If this does not help, I would ask for more details like maker and engine model.

Vehicle shuts off after hitting brakes

Press the brake pedal with the engine idling, do you hear any hissing? if so it is a leaky brake booster, the vacuum leak will cause a stall, another issue with this car is sludge in the throttle valve and idle speed control air-bypass valve, clean them both with carb spray with the engine running, use about 1/2 the can, hold the idle high or the engine will stall, then disconnect the battery for five minutes, reconnect and drive a few miles, if the stall is sludge related then this should correct the issue.
