Car ran out of gas and will not turn over or start with gas. Says Stability System Disabled

2003 GMC Yukon XL Denali, showed just under a 1/4 tank, went inside for 5 mins came out the fuel light was on indicated E, and would not start. Will not even crank. I have added 40 Liters of fuel. A Yukon is not like a Vectra it is a full sized american style pickup truck framed SUV.
The display says "Stability control disabled".
    What do I do.

What does it mean ESC off?

Electronic Stability Control

Basically the system that stops you from sliding out uncontrollably when turning too fast etc.

all cars are different but most have a button to turn it on and off, others have a combination of the pedals (clutch, break, start the car etc)

if you have a traction control button there that's most probably the way to turn it on and off (pressing it tuns just turns it on and off but holding it down for about 5 seconds adjusts all electronic systems) but the ESC should automatically turn itself on when you start the car so if the light is constantly on then theres a deaper issue.

Try disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes and reconnecting it

if that doesnt work, take it to a mechanic

System stability disabled

it's a suspension system that makes sure your car is designed to help keep your car in control in CONTROLLABLE, in a UN-controllable condition ( to a degree ) ie.. slipping on ice, wet roads, etc..

What is traction stability control light for?

It has 2 functions.

1. to let you know that your Traction and Stability Control System is active. This means that your tires are slipping or your car is leaning and the ststem is actively taking corrective action. This should only cause the light to come on for a few seconds at a time.

2. To let you know that the Traction and Stability Control System is disabled. It may be because the button has been pushed to turn it off or it may be due to a malfunction in the system. Thjis will cause the light to come on and stay on. If it is staying on and it is not because you have turned it off, then the system will have to be diagnosed to find out what the malfunction is that has caused it.

2006 outback with the stability control light and engine light on with the cruse light blinking - had it back to subaru twice and no joy!

The cruise control is automatically disabled whenever there is a problem that triggers the CEL. The flashing CC indicates that it is disabled. I'm not sure about the Stability Control light being on, but would think that if there was traction problem causing the Stability Control system to kick in, it would also turn off the CC -- the SC uses braking and engine throttle to stabilize the car so the CC has to be out of the loop.

If the CEL is still on, I'd have the codes read to see what triggered it. Usually, if a problem is not detected again for three consecutive driving cycles, the CEL will go out (although the code is stored for a longer time and can still be read).
Read the codes yourself. 2005+ models display all the engine/transmission/abs/vdc codes on the dash.

Just perform this sequence within 10 seconds:

1. Turn key to ON position (just before START)
2. Turn headlights ON
3. Press Trip button 4 times
4. Turn headlights OFF
5. Press Trip button 4 times
6. Turn headlights ON
7. Press Trip button 4 times
8. Turn headlights OFF (optional)

Codes will display in the trip meter. You might have to press the Trip button to cycle between engine, transmission, and braking computers.

The abs/vdc codes, at least, should be saved forever unless a dealer clears them.

The stability system disabled light came on in my 2004 chevy tahoe, what is that for?

Your vehicle is equipped with vehicle stability control, what the system does is prevent the car from going out of control due to a skid, it does this by applying the brakes at each wheel very quickly to straighten the car out in the event of a skid like on ice or a wet road, the system is part of the ABS (Anti-lock brake system), when the light comes on and stays on it means that something has failed in the system and the computer that controls it has disabled the system
