2001 Sunfire Headlight/Wiper Glitch

I have a 2001 sunfire, previously nothing has been wrong with it, now my headlights and wipers ocassionally won't work.
When i try to turn on my headlights, it sounds like it is locking my power locks, and the wipers will not turn on.
When the wipers are turned on, they only make a loud noise like the motor is working but nothing is happening.
sometimes pressing the unlock button on my keypad will allow the lights and wipers to work, but the last time this happenend, it didn't turn them on.
also why would the sereo stay on for 10 minutes even after the dors have been opened?
this isn't a big deal but thought i would ask
thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problems. My girlfriends car is acting up the same way. I'm still looking for a solution. Did you find one yet? You're the only other person I know who has this problem.

I have the same problem. When I turn my wipers on, I can hear the motor turn on, but they don't work. My wipers quit working first and them my headlights shortly after. I'm afraid it may be electrical, but none of the fuses are blown and I just had my entire after-market stereo taken out to see if that was causing the problem. No luck. Anybody have any ideas??

I too have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire with wiper and headlight problems. Had intermittant failures with both on different dates. Don't know if when lights failed so did wipers but now both have failed hard. Fuses good, replaced relay, no help but suspect something common to both. (Parking and tail and dash lights work fine. Also wiper washer motor works.) I can troubleshoot but have no wiring diagrams to go by. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check for a poor connection in the "ground splice" connector located at the battery box. It should be bolted to the corner of to box closest to the radiator. The negative battery cable also attaches to this bolt. One of the black wires in this ground splice connector is ground for both the wipers and the lights. This was the fix for my car!

Right headlight is brighter than the left headlight

Probably a bad ground or bad connection on the headlight that's dim. Try wiggling the wires on the bulb connection if that's not the problem/ Try and find where that headlight gets it's ground.

How to replace front headlight

Pop the hood and remove the black shroud that covers the space between the grill and rad mount. you should find 2 bolts holding the entire headlight assembly and just back them out. It will come out in 1 piece. You can now change the bulb or replace the entire assembly.

It sounds like there is a short in the switch that turns the interior lights on beside the headlight switch. You might be able to get a switch after market from your local auto parts store. Possibly with it being an 01, it would be a dealer item. Try calling parts store/dealer to see if you can locate one. Hope this is helpful. Please rate. Thanks

Behind Headlamp remove wiring clip and tape it off. At the same time tie off the water pipe. That'll do the job quickly. Otherwise removing the whole wiper system isn't a big job.
