Question about 1991 Dodge Ram
Once truck is started, truck shows proper battery charge, then check guage light comes on, and voltage meter drops to no charge. Usually happens with in minutes of driving. Ive replaced battery and alternator. checked all fuses, and used meter for all wiring, and battery feed. A Mechanic friend looked at it and wasnt able to get a code when connecting his scanner. However he did figure out by turning the ignitioin key on and off twice to get code to pop up on digital read out where the mileage shows, OBD-II code 622. In my repair manual it says Alternator field control circut not switching properly. My friend says i need to replace PCM to fix problem, I wanted a second opinion!!!!
A lot of Chrysler products have the voltage regulator in the computer. I would check the charging system wiring first for poor connections and if nothing else is found there is nothing else for you to do but change it.
