Question about 1993 Honda Prelude

2 Answers

My 1993 Honda prelude has problems starting in the cold weather. We have replaced the relay like suggested by their mechanic but still no luck. We have had to jumper the wires and that is the only reason it will start....after 10-15 tries. Can you help? Someone suggested the computer may be fried

Wires 6 and 8 on the fuel pump relay.

It has done it before, but recently all the time could be a coincidence withthe weather. This worked on our 92. THe honda mechanic took the jumper off and it won't start at all. So the diagnosis came back that part of the computer is fried. Wanted a second opinion before putting out for a computer

Check for power at the fuel pump. i think there is an access plate behind the rear seat on the drivers side/ if not there check under spare tire in trunk. if your getting power at pump. try tapping on tank while trying to start car. also try spraying some ether into intake, if it starts then dies the fuel pump is bad.(i dont think computer is bad)

Try to start with a less expensive procedure. In addition to relay I would check the spark plugs, wiring set and distributor cap. Also coolant temperature sensor can be a problem. Try to warm up the endine block of car with dry heat (hair fan or heat gun, but gently). Sometimes it helps. If it works problem is spurk plugs, distributor cap or coolant sensor. Also would be usefull to chek the fuel filter.
But first for cold weather sometimes it worthy to use the injector cleaner/or octane buster and better fuel which evaporates better and less viscouse motor oil. And of course check the battery.
Good Luck

Sounds like moisture in the distributor cap to me. I would definitely start there first.

I have a 93 honda prelude vtec 2.2l drove and parked, will not start, just cranks over. replaced coil, starter, main relay switch, ignitor, plugs, getting fuel but will not start

Do you have fuel pressure? Is 12 volts available to the injectors with the key turned to run (use a 12 volt test light to check this). Have you checked the combination relay located behind the glove box on most Honda models??

Check your fuel pump fuse or relay. It could be a clogged fuel filter or you fuel pump may be going bad.

My 1993 Honda Accord LX was having problems to start during hot weather, I changed the fuel filter, distributor, rotor cap, rotor and now it seems like gas does not get into the engine. What's wrong?

The Main relay on your vehicle is defective. When the relay is operating while the engine is started and running, it gets hot. Add the hot weather to the relay and they break inside. The relay is located on the side firewall driverside above the left kick plate inside the car,and is secured with a 10mm hex cap screw (bolt). Replace this relay, and your vehicle should start.
It looks like this;

The heater blower doesn't run. Checked continuity

Switch is most likely the culprit...this starts to get tough, if you can't locate a switch at a local junkyard...Personally, I'd have it DIAGNOSED at the dealership ($40-50)...Then, take it to a mechanic for repair or do it yourself.
Good Luck

Wont start

The problem is likely in the injection module which is located in the dash right behind the flip down tray to the right of the flip down fuse door the the left of the steering wheal. To test simply rapidly slap the fuse/vanity flip down door area while starting the car and it will start.I have had 5 preludes and all have the same problem a replacement is 150 or you can sotter all the connections on the board inside the fuel injection module. This will fix the problem as the original connections develop miniscule cracksAll preludes have this problem in really hot or cold weather
