This procedure takes about 45 min.
    1. Remove the belt guard between the power steering pump and the water pump housing.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the water pump pulley to water pump spindle (Do not remove the belt yet, this helps to hold the pulley in place) Using an oversized combination wrench, use it to increase leverage to remove the bolts.
    3. Remove the serpentine belt.
    4. Remove the 5 bolts that hold the water pump to the engine.  Tap it lightly to break the seal.
    5. Replace in reverse using a little silicone on the new gasket.
    6. Fill radiator with coolant.
    7. Start engine and look for leaks.
    8. Crack open the coolant bleeder on top of the thermostat housing. When it flows with water re-tighten.
    9. Top coolant off in overflow
    45 minutes on the 3100 V6.

the water pump on the 3.1 isnt to hard to change ...

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the drive belt guard.
  4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the drive belt. This should help keep the pulley from turning as the bolts are loosened.
  5. Remove the drive belt. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
  6. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine front cover.

The heat in my 1999 Buick Century stopped working

could be a vacuumn device in the heater system itself, or a thermostadt problem just above the water pump, unless you have more than minium experience with repairing autos, take it to a good mechanic, should be less than $100 fix.

Where is the water pump in a 1999 buick century

The water pump is on the top. While facing the engine (front-wheel drive), it is the closest part to you that is on the belt. It is in front of the power-steering pump (slightly lower).
