Question about 2001 BMW Z3
I replaced my battery and now my intrument cluster (speedometer, tach, fuel guage, coolant temp) is not functioning. All fuses are good. I have a Peake research R5 scanner and the error codes that come up are from code table 15 error 83 "can timeout instr 2" and error 84 "can timeout instr 3) The Peake R5 manual does not give troubleshooting info for these codes. In my futile search for this issue on the web I recall seeing something about a backup battery going dead on a computer module could possibly cause this issue. Also where can I find the radio code so I can re-initialize my radio after battery replacement.
You need to perform a static discharge on the vehicle. Remove both cables from the battery and touch the two cable ends together(you may need a jumper wire) for a few minutes. Reconnect the cables to the battery and check it out.

Radio code is in the owners manual, or possibly at the dealer.
