BMW Z3 can timeout instr2, instr3 instrument cluster not working

I replaced my battery and now my intrument cluster (speedometer, tach, fuel guage, coolant temp) is not functioning. All fuses are good. I have a Peake research R5 scanner and the error codes that come up are from code table 15 error 83 "can timeout instr 2" and error 84 "can timeout instr 3) The Peake R5 manual does not give troubleshooting info for these codes. In my futile search for this issue on the web I recall seeing something about a backup battery going dead on a computer module could possibly cause this issue. Also where can I find the radio code so I can re-initialize my radio after battery replacement.

You need to perform a static discharge on the vehicle. Remove both cables from the battery and touch the two cable ends together(you may need a jumper wire) for a few minutes. Reconnect the cables to the battery and check it out.

Radio code is in the owners manual, or possibly at the dealer.

1991 735i tach & speedometer don't work when cold

Your BMW has a twenty-two year old battery in the instrument cluster. There are also some 16 or more low-voltage inputs at the back of it that come from many different sensors. My suspicions point to the batteries when the total mileage of the vehicle tends to blink off. My suspicions point to a tired speed sensor as a second failure. The speed sensors on that car point straight through the bell housing at the ring gear on the intake side of the engine. A way to diagnose it easily, would be to heat the speed and top dead center sensors (because they are right next to each other) with a heat gun or hair dryer on a cold morning to see if that wakes them up. The other standard test is to slap the dash just above the instrument cluster. If the minute amount of current that signals the instrument cluster to do it's job is slightly corroded or dirty , it won't receive a signal. That slap very well may cause them to jump alive. Good luck! Be interested to hear which of my suggestions fixes it!

Chevy cavalier 2005 speedometer stuck not working

That Cluster will work But, You will have to get an Installation kit if you want the Tach to work. Everything else will hook up the Same. You have a Distribution Box (Fuse Box) Under the Hood on the Drivers Side, There is a Fuse in it for the Speedo. Inside the Cover to the Box is the Fuse Diagram or in the Back of the Owners Manual.
