Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Heat or air only comes out from window defrost.

Doesn't matter if heat is selected for floor or vent it still comes out from defrost. Fan speed works fine.

1997 K2500 Chevrolet pick-up 7.4L, Auto, A/C. Heater blower is stuck on defrost.
Regardless of what position the knob is set to, the blower air will not come out of the dash vents nor out of the floor heater. It's stuck on defrost. Knob-switch turns OK as if normal, but air only blows from the defroster vents and nowhere else.

I have a 1975 k5 blazer and it blows cold air it worked fine last year but now it only blows cold air even on the defrost setting what can the problem be and how can I fix it?

A vent flap actuator probably needs to be replaced. It's what moves your vent flaps from heat to A/C or to plain "vent air" when you change settings.

The discussion in the link includes vent flap actuators. Unfortunately, they also include the infamous no low speed fan problem too.

Cannot get any air from dash vents while defrost and floor vents work fine...

Your particular actuator will be a different one than they found.
They're all a absolute pain to get at because they can be well buried in the dash. I would start looking under the dash on the passenger side, that's where most of the air control is. Cannot get any air from dash vents while defrost and floor vents work fine...

My air condition and heat works on defrost only sometime comes out vents last seconds didn't matter were controller set

Not sure what year, make or model vehicle is in question, but the issue is due to an actuator that has gone bad. Sometimes referred to as a mode actuator or blend door actuator. This actuator controls where air/heat will blow from (defroster vent, forward vents, floor vents or combo, etc.). Good luck. Ron @ Speed-O-Repair.

Blower fan not working.

Possible speed control is open circuit or the fan motor. Check you have supply to the switch/motor.

Air only comes through the floor vents

You may have a disconnected control cable, either on the back of the control assembly or at the flap. More information about the car make and year would be useful.

Heat will come out of the defrost vents but not out of the dash or floor vents. The car has a new 190 degree thermostat in it.Any help greatly appreciated. thanks, dave j.

there is door actuators that open/close vents to allow air to be move to the area selected. If your able go to the car turn car ignition to accessory turn fan speed all the way up then move selector to floor or face wait a few seconds and you should hear the vent doors open and close if you dont hear them that will be a good place to start.

Blower motor vent selection switch not working

the hvac selector switch in the dash may be the problem. You need to remove the switch and look at the connector on the back of switch, see if there are any burnt wires at the connector or switch. It's all electronic and the switches have been known to burn out on this and other model.
