Question about 1984 Chevrolet S-10

Gas Mileage Really Bad

My 84 Chevy S-10 seems to **** down the gas. The more the gas tank empties, the worse the gas mileage is. I keep cleaning out the carburetor because it seems the gas is dirty even though I have filled the tank several times since purchasing the truck. I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

The fuel mikeage is the same , the bottom of the tank always seem to go faster cause the top of the tank has a little bit of extra space , if you check the mileage from when you fill the tank , run it untill almost empty and you should get approximately 350-450 kms to a tank of gas , or more

Loss of power, hesitation, bad gas mileage

Clean the MAF sensor. Could also need a tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter. Could also have a stopped up catalic converter that needs to be replaced.

94 4.3 vortec getting horrible gas mileage why???

Go to You Tube Video to find the problems
with that motor & the solution
A local repair shop can check bulletins in their
data base for the fix also
Most likely intake gasket,if you use Dex Cool
It eats gaskets & the vehicle is old ,so you can expect
to be constantly working on it

After getting gasoline, it increases wrong mileage with camry 2003

One tank of gas is not enough to compare mileage. Or are you saying the computer's readout of mpg estimate is showing less? Try a tank or two of premium and see if that helps. Keep track of gas mileage. Driving techniques have a lot to do with gas mileage, as does long trips vs. short trips, highway cruising vs. city driving. For best mileage, do regular maintenance and keep the car in top running condition-good spark plugs and clean filters and clean oil ! Attend to minor problems before they escalate.
If you want to check actual miles per gallon, start with a full tank. Write the odometer reading down, and go. Everytime you put gas in, write down the amount. When you are close to 1,000 miles from the time you started, go fill the tank and include that amount of gas to your previous list. Now add up all the gas used and divide it into the miles to get miles per gallon. (976 miles/31.8 gallons = 30.69 mpg ) . Only one tank will skew your numbers, might be off cause the tank was filled more to the top than the previous fill-up. About a thousand miles of driving will give you a very accurate figure of miles per gallon for your car.

My gas gauge does not work

Easy fix, fill it with gas, write down the odometer mileage, keep track of it and after 150-250 miles put gas in it. Dodges are notorious for this problem. If you are lucky you can just replace the gauge in the dash. If not, you have to drop the gas tank, empty the gas out of it, take it apart and replace the float in the tank. My suggestion, keep track of your mileage. I have done this and it just sucks to fix it.

The gas mileage on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer is very bad. As soon as the gage left the full bar, it becomes a free fall, meaning the gas just drop down so fast. What should I do to improve my gas mileage?

Many reasons for this, from running bigger tires to a dirty air filter, to the way you drive.

#1 on your list, should be to clean your throttle body with throttle body cleaner, WITH the battery disconnected. When finished drive around for 20 minutes or so (with all accessories off), so the computer relearns a properly cleaned throttle body. You'll notice a difference in power and gas mileage right away with this finished.

Replace your 02 sensor upstream, right in the engine compartment where the exhaust comes off the engine, very easy to do and easy access.

Replace your spark plugs with A/C Delco 41-103's, these engines love these and will idle better than other brands.

Replace your fuel filter.....but if you decide to do the Seafoam suggestion below, change the filter after you've run it through a tank of gas, will be clogged with gunk after the Seafoam does it's job.

Also, one thing many of us in the Trailblazer community have done, is run Seafoam through your brake booster. Can get at any autoparts store or even some WalMarts. Look Seafoam up online, there's even a Youtube video on their site to show you how to do it. Basically, unplug the brake booster vaccum hose and **** 1/3 of a can through the hose. The rest you can put in the gas tank, or use a 1/3 in the engine oil, which would require an oil change very early.

With these simple and inexpensive things, you can get your mileage back up to normal.

1991 chevy s-10 bazer sucks to much gas and into the exhaust

I had a similar problem with gas smell and bad gas mileage. The problem was: a gasket that goes around the carburetor covering the jets had worn out allowing gas to pour out and burn off the hot engine. The gasket cost less than $1 to replace. When properly mounted, the gasket stopped the gas leak, which stopped the gas smell meriting an exponential improvement with my gas mileage.

Horrible Gas Mileage

i would change the fuel filter and i would take a flashlight and to make sure none of my fuel injectors are leaking and i would also put the car on ramps and put something behind the rear wheels and check all of my gas lines under the car as while.
