Question about 2003 Kia Sedona

1 Answer

Sliding door handles came off....

The handle part of my sliding doors of my 2003 sedona came off. One then the other in just three days time. when the handles came off I could hear pins drop on the inside. I called the dealer ship and I could get the replacement pins for little to nothing, but the labor was 300 bucks. How can I fix this myself??? nothing broke off, just sounded like pins fell. Thanks for all your help.

I have the same problem, it has to be a defect with this model they should be fixing the problem not us, a handle should not come off, I have had other vans and never had this problem, I say contact Kia recall to report you problem..

My Slider handle broke off one on the outside and the other on the inside (opposite doors). How do you replace them? I did not hear any pins drop but the handles are snapped and have to be replaced

You wouold have to take the insider door panels off and you can either use the new pins or locate the old ones inside the doors.if i were you i would put some type of adhesive on them when i put them back in place so it wont happen again

Rightside interior door handle not opening door

It could mean the rod connecting the handle to the latch has broken. You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. and you can access the innards of the door

Have you been replacing the handles with aftermarket replacements made in China. If so, spend the extra $$ to get the parts from a GM dealer. They obviously break too but perhaps not as easily.

Side sliding door

The trick is that there is a small clip holding the inside handle in place. Push the panel in and grab it with small needle nose or forceps.

Then remove all the interior panels.

There are seven torx screws holding the intern latch into the door frame, and three interconnecting bars between the outer and inner inner handles.

Once you have the ability to move the inner assemble around you can get to the two metric nuts holding the exterior handle.

The lock assembly is removed by depressing the metal latch on the bottom of the handle assemble after the handle is fully removed.

Reverse and replace and that's it. (don't for get to have extra plastic door panel clips as they will break as you remove the interior panels)

Overall - I would suggest to just take it to the dealer or to a body shop. I'm told they would do it for about $75. I took about 2 hrs to do this and if you are even a bit shaky and drop anything into the door, it is game over. Next time I will do the dealer thing.

Kia Door Handle

Remove the door trim inside by loosen 3 bolt with screw driver, then pull out the door trim, after that loosen the hex.bolt (3 hex-bolt) on lock mechanism bracket, after that you can loose bolt (4 hex bolt) on handle cover. Be careful to not drop the bolt, because the gap on sliding door is too narrow. After you removing the handle assembly you can see where is the broken. You can remove the handle from cover by removing pin clips on it. To fixing the broken handle you can just using plastic glue or you can drill a small hole and put some small wire to reinforce the plastic.
