Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

Gear slipping This problem occurs more in the cold than heat. It happens only until the car has been driving(not running) for 15 minutes or more. It used to only happen one time, but it is happening more each time. Here is the problem: I will warm the car, then when I go to leave, I will put the car in gear and as soon as it takes off, it slips out of gear. It will not go back into gear unless you rev the engine to about 3000 rpm's. The transmission does not make any noice and there is not any odors coming from the car. Can you tell me what the problem is and what it will take to fix it. It is the auto-stick Intrepid.

SOURCE: speedometer stopped working. Transmission slips

Limp mode; get it checked.. Fault in the transmission. Even if it stops happening for a drive or two, it WILL return. This isn't a problem that will just come then disappear. Could be internals in the transmission or something like a sensor for the transmission that is faulty.

Not to sound condescending, but have you checked to see if you are low on transmission fluid?

Car runs and drives but 10-15 miles it dies and wont run until cools off

Dear Sir,
As you said your car stop after 10-15 miles run.and start working after 10 to 15 min wait.
It can occur due a part or unit which defer working according to temperature. it means it stop working when it got hot and start working when it get cold. this type of parts are motors which have winding unit inside it, which can stop working in high temperature, it will not happen if they are good working condition but if that is got short then it can happen.
In your case cause is the fuel pump which is in fuel tank,Till it is cold it supply the fuel to engine but after few miles run it stop sending fuel to engine ,after wait for 10 to 15 it again start sending fuel to engine when it get cold.
Fuel pump will solve your problem. if any issue please let me know. Thanks.

My timing belt and water pump for Honda Accord 1990 was replaced and used the car for 2- 3 weeks. After driving about 15 minutes, entering the freeway, my car slowed down but the engine still running....

If you have never changed that distributor on your 1990 Accord, I would suspect it. Check for spark while cranking. The sensors inside the distributor would usually heat up, after 15-20 minutes of running, and would then die out, until the car is cooled off for a while. Look into that distributor.

sounds like you have a defective accessory drive belt or a locked up engine cooling fan clutch whioch causes the belt to slip, more so cold..

Engine stops while driving & engine revs high between gear change

Hi, were the spark plugs ever replaced in the car recently ?
As when they get old & hot they can cause these sorts of problems & also cheap brand plugs as well do the same.
