Idle reving issue....1993 Honda Accord

Hi, my idle is going nuts. When I start my car, the idle seems to be trying to find the best level to warm up the car. I've ben told that it has to do w/ the O2 sensor and that it's not that big of a deal.

But now, it continuously reves back and forth while I'm driving...going up and down and up and so on.....

I just got my water pump and timing belts replaced and thought the O2 sensor wouldn't cause that big of an issue but it's causing the idle to go nuts.

Any suggestions? Is it hard to replace the O2 sensor? Do you think it's just that ?
Thanks
Greg

The water temperature guage on my 1993 Honda Accord stays on "cold" most of the time and the idle is high. It will go to normal for a short period and the idle will drop. Is this a sensor issue...

could be both at about 20 bucks apiece i would do both. would start with the thermostat you cause you can check it in a pan of water. but it prob stuck open from the sounds of it. protect your environment collect antifreeze in clean container re use

Engine does not idle normal. engine revees up and down.

Your idle air control valve is bad. It controls the idle speed. Have it checked.

I just bought a 91 honda accord se and when you go to stop it stalls or suts off. any ideas of what may be causing this

Check your 91 Accord's ignition coil. The coil goes bad at apprx. 150k miles and cause the car to run rough, hard to start(long cranking time) in the morning, stall after the vehicle has warmed up, cut out while driving and backfire horribly when accelerating from a standstill.

Idles up and down after warm up

THE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW

on the older hondas even the newer ones idle speed is coolant temp controlled.

when the engine idles up the electronic coolant temp sensor is submerged in coolant and reads warm, so the engine computer idles the car down. the coolant level if low than drops from around the coolant temp sensor and it says the engine is cold, so the engine computer idles the car up.

which results in the constant rise and fall in engine rpm.

ADD COOLANT TO THE RADIATOR AND WATCH THE CAR MAGICALLY FIX ITSELF.

Idles up and down after warm, but goes away in reverse and drive. 1993 honda accord

I had the same problem with my honda. On the throttle body there is a screw that controls idle speed. If your idle speed is around 800-1000 rpm in neutral, tighten the screw a quarter turn each try until the idle speed is around 1500 RPM. Did this stop the idle?

Idle goes nuts while warming up and now while driving....any help

check your throttle position sensor. this has nothing to do with your water pump. when the TPS goes out it does what your talking about. it revs up and down all the time. it is fairly easy to replace
