To check termostat you will have to pull out and heat water up to the temp of your thermostat and drop it in water if it opens then it is good. but with all this trouble it is easier to just replace it since you will have out anyway.

I have a 1993 chevy suburban and just replaced the thermostat, because addmissions wants the surburan to run no higher than 160f . Well the thermostat works but dosen't kick in untill it reaches 2

you will be hard pressed to get a thermostat that opens at160F as that is 71 C and most thermostats have an opening temp of 80 C (175 F) to 85 c which is 185F
at a temp of 220F which is 104.4 C your engine is near boiling
it indicates that the thermostat has been incorrectly fitted in that the bulb or major part is not in the head or block water but in the hose section
go to the dealer spares and see what the temp range is on a new thermostat but I doubt that the manufacturer will get a special thermostat as they use generic items from thermostat manufacturers put in expensive packaging

Removing thermostat on 88 suburban

Make engine is cool. Relieve pressure from cooling system with radiator cap. Follow upper radiator hose to top of engine. This will connect to the thermostat housing. Remove bolts and bracket if it has one to lift up on housing to expose thermostat. Note use drain pan under vehicle or partially drain radiator prior to removal. also make sure gasket surface is clean and thermostat is installed correctly. fill and check for leaks.

Heat blowing cold air in 2004 chevrolet suburban

With coolant full and engine hot, make sure both heater hoses are hot. If not replace thermostat. If they are, check the blend door for proper operation. Otherwise you may have a bad climate control module. Check both front & rear units.

I have a 99 suburban 5.7, and im gushing fluid inbeetwn the thermastat and the air condition pump

You either have a leak in the hose or a hole in the themostat housing. Check the hose for holes first then tighten the hose clamp. If it still leakes then remove the hose from the thermostat housing and replace both the thermostat and the thermostat housing. Any more questions please ask.

Overheating of 98 Suburban 6.5 Diesel K2500

hey mate.

As we don't have major issues with engines running too cold in Au, you can do away with the thermostat. I don't remove them totally, you should always use a restricter plate(a thermostat with the valve part removed will do it) otherwise the water can circulate too fast and you actually lessen the cooling systems effectiveness. It is probable that the thermostat is faulty by the way it is behaving.

When you say the wrong way round, which side was the spring facing, the engine, or the radiator.

My 1998 K2500 suburban overheats when you first start the vehicle and drive it will heat up to between 96 and 117 celcius after which it will drop to mid 80's and wont rise over 92 which is as it should be

sounds almost normal..albeit a lazy thermostat likely....when did you last flush and fill the radiator and replace the thermostat? clutch and associated belts and hoses should be inspected at this time also
