Car will start but cuts out and all electric power has failed

First the car was giving problems had to jump start. (2.) bought a new battery problem solved for 2 days, starting problem started again and progressively got worse until final cut out with no electric power at all.
Appears as though there is a dead short.
Is there an engine management fitted to this car.

have you checked the charging system once the voltage drops below 11.5 - 12 volts the vehicle will not run .

The problem has been successfully completed.
The problem was that the battery fitted by Wal-Mart was not secured to the car, subsequently the negative terminal was touching the body of the car at times, this caused the entire electrical system to shut down and of cause when you moved the battery to fit jump leads the car was okay.
Hope this explanation makes sense.
Thank you for your help, it is nice to know someone is out there.

John Reeder

The Positive terminal would have had been the one that was touching the body at times. You have a negative ground system (neg. ground body) positive to negative will short out and shut down the electrical system.

Why won't my 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara start?

ill answer for NO ELECTRICAL POWER :
sure and is easy with any DMM meter, got one? any $20 DMM.
my guess;1
engine will not crank
dash lamps out.
head lights out. dead.
post systems of electrical system , all parts that work and those that dont work, and problem is easy.
cleaned battery terminals.
tried borrowed battery that reads, 12.6vdc ? (charged is 12.6)
2012 that is in warranty car.... ?
my guess on 2012
jumping a car, that is battery jump starting.
a battery can short, and no jump start on earth will start shorted battery in car. but does lay down some big sparks, or burns up cheap walmart cables.
if the car will not crank, say just that, my starter motor will not crank
jump started from live running other car.
if true then make sure headlights work , if they dont work fix that first.
HL must always work, even keys in pocket.
best is to put a fully charged battery in the car, jump starting can cause
surges that can damage sensitive electronic$$$, do jumps as a desperate measure,
with a charged battery,
1: Head lights work, no fix that , use voltmeter
2: cranks robustly.
no , wiggle shifter lever, (on A/T cars the park switch blocks cranking) On M/T the clutch blocks cranking.
with any dMM
measure battery voltage before crank and during.
12.6v good. reseted.
cranking.
0 to 10v bad (weak battery or shorted starter motor)
11 and above good. and must crank, if not , starter is bad.
to prove starter is bad, check voltage at starter solenoid coil wire lug.
it must be at 11v cranking , below 8v it chatters, and fails.
if at 0v cranking this lug that means the Key start line is failing.
A/T switch not closes, or bad ignition switch.

VW Passat estate Diesel 2.0 TDI 2007. Car has intermittent electrical Fault after 10 minutes driving on road the dash board power cuts out and engine stops, dash board only has led clock and mileage...

check battery cables make sure they are clean and tight and make sure the alternator charging battery. first check battery volts. should be 12.6 volts. with engine running alternator out put at battery should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts. if not either alternator failed.check alternator power feed wires and voltage regulator wires for damage or make sure electrical wires has tight connection.check alternator battery.first turn off radio before before disconnecting negative battery cable.

Vehicle was parked and not started for 2 months.

Hi, there will be diodes in the generator that are letting the power from the battery drain away through the parked times when not in use. to prove it charge the battery- then disconnect the negative terminal on the battery, connect 24 hours later and see if the battery as kept it charge, if so - fit new alternator, good luck.

2003 Honda Accord. Dies when I try to put it in drive

you are having a problem with your alternator. the battery has a main purpose to start the vehicle, keep computer memory, and give power to electrical components when the key is in the on position. the alternator charges the battery and gives power to electrical components when the vehicle is running. now when you hit the brakes there was an extra load added to the alternator and if the car died then the alternator is running very weak and needs to be relace.

It will turnover but will not start unless i jump it . new bat. & new bat. cables . I did a tunup ,just not we not start on its owne

if the battery you just bought isn't cranking over the motor (should sound like the motor is turning over slower than before) you may have bought the wrong battery. Batteries have different ratings based on what they are used for. One thing to look at is CCA's or Cold Cranking Amps. If you bought a new battery with less CCA's than what the engine calls for, even though all car batteries are rated for same voltage, your amperage is off and isn't quite enough to give the starter the power it needs to kick over your engine. By jumping the truck, you are giving it the bit of extra power needed. Now battery cables could also be a problem.....I had a set of jumper cables that were very cheap and they never transfered power the same way as my $80 pair that had a better gauge wire...same thing for battery cables but generally this shouldn't be an issue. If you have your old battery still, look at the CCA's on the battery label and compare them to the new battery.....should be different.

Lost all electrical car died wont start

Will it start when you give it a jump or install a good battery? If it does the problem is your alternator. What most likely happened is the alternator quit working while you were driving and the car was relying on the battery directly to keep it going in which the battery completely lost power and shut the car off.

it's a default sensor to keep from blowing motor, you need to check your radiator for leaks. If that doesn't fix the problem , change your alternator. :)
