Question about 1999 Saturn SC

1 Answer

Car won't turn over

Vehicle died while driving on the highway. We thought it was due to the cold and having water in the fuel line, so I added some Heet. That got the car started for a while but it died again that same morning. The battery was no good so we replaced it with a new one. The vehicle worked again for about 3 days. Yesterday morning the car would not start at all. It would make some noise but would not turn over. Do you think it's the alternator or the fuel pump? I have already had some conflicting theories.

Pump the tank dry of the fuel using the electric fuel pump, just jump the fuel pump relay to get the pump to run and remove the supply line to the injectors and attach a hose. Use extreme caution around gasoline, no sparks, ground the container to the truck.

Toyota corolla, engine seized

the first thing I would do I would check my alternator belt if it runs w pump and alt this could be the problem of overheating and dead battery on the engine part what I do is put a socket at the crankshaft bolt and turn it with a 1/.2 braker bar if it turns the engine is not seiced be sure the engine is off to this tests.

It could be the chrankshaft sensor or the egnition coils. check to make sure that your plugs are getting spark. Can be a lot of things but this is a place to start.

Reduced power light is on and drives slow

Try adding gas line antifreeze to your fuel. If you have water in the gas, this will clear it up. Water in the gas line can turn to slush or even ice when the temperature dips below freezing, causing reduced power because of reduced fuel flow.

Died while driving down the highway then won't start? We were going about 70 and it just died. I will turn over but not start. Any help would be great.

My first thought, is the fuel pump quit

That is where you start, or a repair shop should start

I do not like going anywhere near 70 mph for that reason,
& I'am getting too old to enjoy speed & spend too
much time making love to vehicles, to put them under
any load at high speeds or uphills

Your temp sensor reads your coolant temp just like a thermometer. It also tells your computer when to turn your fans off and on. GM's have a problem not only with the sensors themselves, but also the wiring to them, so I would have it changed and the "pigtail" or wiring plug in at the same time. The stall sounds like water in the gas which has become a real problem whenever gas prices go up. Start with the sensor, it shouldn't be expensive, and if it fixes the problem, it will save you on your mpg and more expensive repairs down the road.

The gas in the tank actually provides cooling to your fuel pump.My best guess is that you ran low on fuel and the pump (which could have been marginal) has had it due to overheating. You will have to get the fuel system pressure checked to be sure or remove the main fuel line and see if fuel comes out.Have a bucket ready just in case.Good luck
