Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
My 2001 Grand Cherokee WJ automatic will not start going up through the gears until engine revs are at 3500/4000 rpm after that she is fine and will cruise for hours at say 70 mph with no problems. The Engine management light came on so I took it to my Jeep dealer who has not yet told me the fault code (could only speak to non technical receptionists) but says I need a new gearbox. When I disputed this over the phone and said I thought that it was just the input and/or output speed sensors on the transmission I was told that although there is only a minor fault in the gearbox; it cannot be accessed and thus I have to have a new gearbox. Has anyone heard of this extreme remedy for what appears to be a minor problem. Thanks for any help
Sounds like the trans is slipping check fluid level and see if it smells burnt and is brown in color. should be a bright red if its ok. its alot more than a minor problem
