Question about 2006 Saturn ION

2 Answers

2006 Ion won't start from time to time.

Battery is fine and starter seems ok. Read somewhere that there is a sensor that may need replaced. What sensor is it, and where on the car is it located? And can I replace it or can only the dealer replace it?

I have found that there is a dead spot in the starter if you hit it once it will start and run for about a week or until it is really cold out, I ended up just replacing the starter today, I'll let you know if it worked

I think i found the problem, but not the solution.....same problem, 06 Saturn Ion doesnt start...have new battery, starter & alternator seem to be fine....however the radio doesnt turn off until you turn off the car.....while sitting in the car today after I turned off & removed the keys the light on the radio continued to come on and off while the car was off and no key in the ignition...I know absolutely nothing about cars, but i am assuming the radio is shorting out the battery?? I am going to have that checked out tomrrw

The 1st thing to do is have a trouble code test run to see if any coes are in mem for this problem. The sensor u refer to is the crankshaft position sensor.

Intermittent electrical system shutdown

I would look into the starter connections, the power for the system is tied into the starter, loosen and tighten the connections at the starter, if you have a power distribution box under the hood make sure all the connections to it are clean and tight.

check the wires carefully to the starter solinoid, if the wires are fine. it could be a bad starter solinoid or starter. and make sure you are getting enough voltage to starter. a battery when vehicle is off, should read at least 12.6 volts at battery. when running if alternator is ok, it should read at least 14.2-14.7 at battery. hope this helps you!

We have a 2003 Saturn Ion that has intermittent starting problems. The problem occurs at all temperatures. If we wait 5-15 minutes it will start. Have replaced the battery and starter My girlfriends...

Take the car in, and have the fuel pump checked, and maybe the alternater. Something in there is going out. Could even be lose battery cables, or a lose connection. Either way, you should have it checked before you get stuck somewhere.
