Once you haved removed the dome light disconnect the power and completely detach it. Take the clear cover off and you can wiggle the switch out in the center (off) position. Be careful not to loose the steel bead and spring. Once removed you will notice on the switch where there is a point of contact. That part isn't applying enough preassure to the power and ground on the base. You can remove that prying it out with a small skrew driver or by hand (which I was able to do). Once that is removed slightly bend the center out like you are going to fold it in half, just enough to make it arch. Then bend the outer parts back out to fit back in the switch properly and replace with the spring as it was and replace the bearing and it's spring and place the switch back in the housing and put the cover on. Reconnect the power and make sure it works before placing it back in place. I was quoted $80 for parts and labor to replace the entire dome light. This took 5 minutes to figure out and put back while parked at the dealership waiting to see if the part was in stock.

On the lamp lens, locate the small rectangular slot. Using a small, flat bladed screwdriver, insert the tip into the slot and pry it open. It helps if the lens is not freezing cold. Remove it with a warm interior. To replace, it has tabs on the other side, and just snaps back into place. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I fixed mine. No trip to a service center. All u need is a business card folded up. What happens is the switch looses connection. fold up half a business card loosely so it feels bulky and may open up. This puts pressure on the switch. Tape it to the dome cover and up it up. Your light will now function. Mine does. Sunshyne

If you call your local Toyota Dealer , they can bring up the picture of the area you are referring to, most of the time you give them the VIN of the vehicle and they can pull up all that information for you.

Good Luck.

How do i replace the dome light in my 97 corolla

The dome light is mounted on the ceiling of the car.
You would need a small flat-end screw-driver, and aim it to the base of the lens cover. Then pry the lens off.
If you cannot remove the bulb with your finger nail, then pry it out at its end. Or simply push back the bulb's contacting spring at the end of the bulb. Then steady your hand to catch it as it drops down.
Replace the lens by pushing it back to its housing.
Test the dome-light if it works. If it doesn't check the dome's door switches screwed to each door frame. Pushing on the door switches several times sometimes refreshes the dome-light. The door-switches can be removed with a medium-size 4-corner screw-driver.
By removing the black covers of the door-switches, their conditions could be detemined. Spray some electrical contact-cleaner on them if corroded, or simply replace with new ones.

My best advice is to replace the filament bulb with this

it is a interior dome light led replacement bulb made for your vehicle, it costs about 20 bucks, but will never need to be replaced again.

manufacturers are trying to use led's now rather then bulbs due to the no maintenance required factor in their oem books

06 corolla dome light quit working

The done light grounds itself by touching the roof bracing. The metal often wiggles and gets loose and cause it to not work, Ive also sen dome light switches go bad in corollas. Best bet it do either replace it, or remove it and bend the metal tabs out for a tighter fit. Try wiggling the switch also, they go bad.
