Question about 1991 Isuzu Rodeo
I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo, with an Automatic gear box. From time to time the "Check trans" light is on: in such case, the power of the engine is not transmitted properly and the car would only move by using the "L" position of the Gear box (the car doesn't move on the Drive position). The problem disappears after turning on and off the engine several times in a row. I already changed the transmission fluid: the situation improved somehow, but the problem is still here, especially after a journey in the desert (sand sea).

The trans in your vehicle is a 4L30E.The check, and fill plugs are in the pan.The fluid has to be checked after the vehicle is fully warmed up,engine running,in Park. The hard to shift into 2nd gear is kind of difficult to say, check the level, maybe have it scanned for trouble codes esp. if check engine is lit. Those particular transmissions have one weak area, and thats the Low gear,or first gear band and drum. That causes a symptom of slip and chatter on takeoff from a complete stop.

i have same problem. get ready to pay around 2400+. as a matter of fact mine is in the shop right now. you cannot check the fluid yourself. it's up under the bottom. no dip-stick. its a joke, i have a 99 rodeo. will drive it long enough to get my 2400 out of it and then its a gonner !!!! sounds like it is going to create alot of problems if i keep it.

pan has two plugs in it.
start vehicle, run through gears a couple of times then while engine running with vehicle on flat ground remove fill plug and top up until oil trickles out.

No they are not compatible. They changed the crank between 95 and 96. I have a 96 that needed an engine swap and the dealer that I bought it from was paying for the engine, he bought a 95 engine and after a month of trying the mechanic said no way no how, the crank between the two is different.
