Question about 2002 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Nissan 2.5L Altima. Out of the clear blue, yesterday when i went to start it, it was very slow in turning over, the battery is only two years old and seems to be fine. Once the car is started and running for a few minutes, it will start back up with no problems. It seems like over night or when it is cold it is really struggling to start. Now this morning i went to start it and it cranked over but wouldn't fire, finally it caught and started but was sluggish when pressing the accelerator, after maybe 30 seconds it was fine. Exhaust smoke (blueish/white) present right after starting but that may have been because i pressed the gas a few times when cranking. Not so good with a fuel injected engine, i know. Wondering if there is a connection between the slow starting when the car is cold to this mornings cranking with no spark. I thought the slow starting was possibly battery related but this morning it had plenty of cranking power just had a hard time firing. Have not had any problems with this baby. It has 85K miles.

Car wont start, seems like computer has to be reset, how can i reset the computer?

Computers store codes, if a fault in a system is detected

You clear the codes after the repair is made,no resetting

All sensors have to remain connected & working as designed

First you check that the battery is good & has at least 12.6 volts
& holds that after cranking

Then you check for codes & go from there

Do you have fuel pressure at the engine?

Do you have spark while cranking?

The air ducting & MAF Sensor have to be in place?

Nissan key trouble

Unfortunately, the keys have an anti-theft chip in their bodies that communicates with the car's system.
Try Googling ("Nissan/car key programming" for a cheaper price or phone independent garages. The keys can probably only be done by an authorized Nissan dealer. Also, phone locksmiths for their opinion.

hand it over to a mechanic or Nissan. If you recently had an M.O.T and it went of quickly then ask for a refund, even better, ask him to take a look at the car again
