I just got my engine replaced in my 2004 mazda rx-8 automatic. I went to get an oil change and they found that my oil smelled like gas. I need some advice on what to do. thank you

This is often caused by blow by where the cylinder walls are worn down and the rings are no longer providing a tight enough seal. If you suspect that could be the problem do a leak down test or take it to a mechanic to do a leak down. Once that's ruled out there are a lot of other possibilities, but most are less serious and might be running rich like you mentioned, carb/float issues, and a number of other possibilitiles.

My experience with both cars and motorcycles is that if you have a really strong gas smell in the oil shortly after doing changes, it's usually blow by

My 2004 RX8 won't start when the engine is warm, when its cold it starts no problem. If I drive the car till it at operating temp and shut it down I have to wait an hour until start it again

if this car is on the cold start injector when it is defective. Injects additional fuel to the engine is still warm. Is it to feel warm by running more than normal gasoline smell?

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 at 11,000 KM soon and the oil hasn't been changed yet...I have an appointment in 2 weeks. Is it dangerous to drive until then?

You can drive it safely, if you at least check the oil to make sure it is still close to full on the dipstick. If your oil is low, you should add some before you continue to drive it!

Gasoline smell coming from the rear of car.

Hi my name if Tom and I am here to help you.

I have had my share of cars with gas smells and these are very serious problems. Do not drive without a window open so as not to feel the affects of the gas vapor.

One reason could be that you have filled the cars gas tank too high and the fumes are getting into the car. Another cause is gas has gotten into your trunk and this leads directly to your back seat.

If I can get more info from you, I could pin point your problem.

How much oil should be on the dipstick for 2004 RX8? Do you read the level on the dipstick the same with any other car?

According to Mazda, the oil level should be between the F and L hash marks.

When you put the dipstick all the way back in (lined up with the V-notch on the cover), it reads over full. When you don't line up the V-notch, and just do a quick dip, with the notch keeping the dipstick from going all the way in and sealing the hole, it reads the correct level.

Mazda RX8

It usually is evident. It may sound odd, but if you take out the oil dipstick and smell it, you should be able to smell gas if it's in there. I would still recommend changing the oil just to be safe. Fuel in the oil could ruin the apex seal on the rotors and repairing that will cost alot more than an oil change. Also make sure that whoever changes it uses 5W-20 Non-synthetic oil. Synthetic oil will break down parts in the engine. I hope I could help.
