Question about 2001 Honda Civic

1 Answer

My car is starting, then stopping... what is the problem?

I have a 2001 Honda Civic and the problem I am having is that when I crank the car it will start but act like it's trying to keep up with turning over.  It starts then it sounds like it winds down and then it will stop.
I have to rev up the engine before it will get going.
My check engine light is on.  I am going to get it looked at by an auto parts store but I really don't want to take it into a shop.
I just got it out of the shop for a new radiator.  It wasn't having this problem before I took it to get that fixed so I think it might be the man who fixed my car.
Any help?

Why does my 2001 civic not start, and no crank? But later will start just fine?

The starter or the battery may be exhibiting intermittent failures. First check to make sure that the battery terminals are clean, tight, not broken or cracked and free from corrosion.

sounds like the distributor. over time the distributor could get debris and condensation inside it and cause it to act up here and there.

My 2001 Honda Civic engine quit running with no warning.

It used to be that there were three basic problems that would cause a car not to start - air, fuel, ignition. If you weren't getting one of those, then you wouldn't start.

Nowdays there is a fourth - sensors. The pollution sensors on your car are either picking up an excess of carbon monoxide or they simply are malfunctioning (that happened to me with a buick of mine) and giving the computer the wrong numbers.

Here's a hint if you take it into your dealer. First sensor they should check is the RPM sensor on the flywheel. It can cause all the problems the other sensors cause, but it only costs about 40 dollars to replace. Everything else is much more expensive and they will change out those before they find the RPM sensor.

Good luck.

Honda civic won't start no crank

Your battery is stone dead. Once started, the alternator keeps it running.

Timing 92 civic

You can't turn that distributor enough to make it not start. Full advance would be counter clockwise to the stops and Full ****** the other way. If it helps, just clamp it up halfway between the stops and you won't be far off. I think you may have another infamous Honda starting glitch.
