SOURCE: 94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: my shifter is stuck in park

If the steering wheel is turned the continue to turn the steering wheel in the same direction as the tires are going while applying firm pressure to the brake the try to pull it out of park. I know this sounds crazy but they have so many safety swithches on them, you may have one not activating.

My 07 Monte carlo won't shift out of park

The first thing you need to do is check to see if the brake lights are working (lower lights not high mounted brake light), the park lock system gets power from the brake light circuit and will not release the shifter unless the brake pedal is pushed and the brake lights actually work.

Don't waste your time looking for a headlamp relay. You will not find one. 1983 Monte Carlo does not use a headlamp relay. Your problem is most likely a defective headlamp dimmer switch. It is located about halfway down the upper left side of the steering column. It is secured by the same screws that mount the ignition switch. It is activated by a metal rod that pushes down on it when you pull back on your turn signal lever. It looks like the picture below.

My 2005 Pacifica will not disengage from park and the check engine, brake and anti-skid warning lights are all on

SHIFTER LOCKED IN PLACE

  1. Remove the instrument panel cover below the steering column, then remove the steering column shrouds to gain access to the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid. The solenoid is part of the interlock cable assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire connector from the rear of the BTSI solenoid.
  3. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.
  4. With the brakes applied, try moving the shifter out of the PARK position.
    • If the lever now moves freely in and out of PARK, perform the Circuit Test below.
    • If the shift lever still does not move from the PARK position, remove the BTSI solenoid from the shift lever assembly. If the shift lever now moves freely in and out of the park position, the BTSI solenoid is faulty and the interlock cable must be replaced. If the shift lever still does not move from the park position, the problem is in the shift lever assembly or the ignition interlock cassette

I can not get my monte carlo out of park. I push on the break, and I have done everything that the driver manual tells me to. My model is a 97. I am aware of a switch behind the break pedal, but I do not...

it is the shift lever solenoid, if you can acess the inside of the console where the gear shifter is on the bottom left side of the shifter you will see an electrical connecter that has 2 wires hooked to it this is the solenoid, you can replace this and it will fix your problem, or you can just unplug it and the shifter will work, if you choose to leave it unplugged beware that the transmisson will now be able to be shifted into gear without your foot having to be applied to the brake, but hey, who puts their car in gear without their foot on the brake, all this system is is a saftey device to keep you from shifting into gear without your foot on the brake

2006 Monte Carlo

Here's how to override the shift lock on a 2006 Monte Carlo. First, remove the top of the shift console by pulling up on the plastic piece directly in front of the hinged cover. This is the piece that has the cup holders molded into it and it is held in place by 4 clips (i.e. it will pop back into place with no tools).

Next, shine a flashlight down into the console to the right of where the shift lever passes through (passenger's side). You'll see a wiring clip with 4 or 5 wires going into it. Directly behind this clip you can see a metal shaft with a flared top that looks like a button. This is the shift lock override button. Reach in behind the wiring clip with your right hand and press this button in. With the engine running, hold the button in with your right hand, press on the brake, and shift out of park with your left hand.

Now you can drive the car to your mechanic (or to your own garage) to find out why the shift lock solenoid is not working. On mine it was obvious. A wire going into that clip near the override button came loose and there was no power to the shift lock solenoid. I removed the clip, reattached the wire, and replaced the clip. Problem solved, fixed for free!
