I had this same exact problem about a month ago with my 1990 Accord LX. Sounds like your ignition switch has gone bad. I installed one from a junk yard and have not had any problems since. If you can find the nearest salvage yard and go and pull one yourself. Easy to install. Has a switch at one end attached to a plug-in wiring harness. You can search on YouTube for installation video tips. Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 grand am it turns over but its like its not getting gas. It runs with starting fluid I cleaned the fuel filter it had some black junk in it. I put new starter and plugs and coil pack.

When you first turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump turn on? If not, then the pump, which is in the tank, has likely seized. You can try banging the tank with a rubber mallet or a piece of wood to see if you can get the pump going temporarily.

After my car sets for an hour or so. Ill start it its slow to start sometimes dies. Then i smell gas under the hood. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi Sean, I'm glad to help!

Sean, the only suggestion I can give in this case is. It sounds like it may be flooding out. This could be because of leaking injectors. What happens is when you turn the engine off the injector will continue to leak into the cylinder until there is an abundance of gas then when you try to start the engine the gas needs to clear before it will start and your smelling all that raw fuel being pushed out of the tail pipe. If you are mechanically inclined then remove the fuel rail and while watching the tips turn the key to the on position. CAUTION: DO NOT try to start the engine, simply turn the key to the on position. If one are more injectors are leaking after turning the key off then replace the leaking injectors. NOTE: Sometimes carbon build-up on the injector tip will also cause then to leak. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Sean.

Just brought my 2004 chevy cavalair to the shop. It died while i was driving and my buddies and i checked some things. My buddy tested the pressure at the nozzle above the engine and gas sprayed out when...

If the fuel pump is working, you should be able to hear it whirring in the gas tank for 2 or 3 seconds when you first turn the key to the "run" position, without turning the engine over. It should do this each time you turn the key on.
