Often times the problem lies in the steering coupler in these models. It is located at the bottom of the shaft before the gearbox. The Dodge dealers sell a kit that runs around 14 dollars to rebuild the coupler. If you have to replace the whole coupler itself, it runs about 90 dollars and you still have to buy the seal and pin kit as well. It is a pretty simple job that doesnt require any special tools. Dodge never put out any TSB's that i know of on this, but it is usually the problem.

You need to check all your mounting points in the steering. Also check your tie rod ends and the u-joints to the rack and pinion.

My cars steering is really loose. Everytime i drive it gets worse. Its a 2000 toyota camry. I took it in to a couple shops and nobody could find what was wrong with it, all said it looked fine just maybe...

You say the steering feels loose
You say it is getting worse

Two shops & nothing wrong !!

If it was mine, I would be careful using it, or not use at
all, until repaired

It is not possible what you say & nothing found
by a repair shop.
Those shops obviously don't care & may be incompetent,
based on the fact, you know the steering has issues

They knew & you now know that an alignment wouldn't solve
your issues

The alignment shop is questionable as well because an alignment
only shop not some place in a shopping mall, usually find worn
parts & replace before they would ever attempt the alignment

They also knew that flushing fluid won't solve the worn parts issue

So you got the run around like what I believe happen all too often

Did you really explain the problem & did you go for a ride at all those
places with you as a passenger & a mechanic driving,if not then my
opinion is that they never planned on diagnosing the problem with
the steering & you can testify to that

I can't from the internet tell you if you have a bad lower ball joint, loose steering rack bushings, bad tie rod ends, worn steering
rack or other possible items, but you see how these places operate
& you see the list of parts I suggest that could contribute.

You have my sympathy & I don't know how to help you find a
honest & capable shop, that is why I have always done my own
repairs & never have any problems diagnosing & solving things
once & done.

Is there an adjustment for the steering box on my truck. feels like i am steering a boat. just had pitman arm replaced and front end aligned, still feels loose?

Yes, the box is adjustable. The front end guy can do that adjustment. I hate the condition that you describe. Are you using Light Truck (LT) tires. Car tires have softer sidewalls and also contribute. I have a Mercedes, also and it steered WORSE than my van. Van had truck tires, put tires with more sidewall plies on Mercedes and was VERY happy, tire guys thought I was nuts, but this issue causes driving stress.

1990 chevy gladiator van steering column has came loose. It is floppy, how and what is the best way to correct this.

I will assume you really have a G10-20-30 van.(half/ 3/4 or 1 ton full size van)
The fifth digit of your vin should be a G.
Not the 2wheel drive pickup indicated.
That being said, your Gadiator is an aftermarket conversion van with a loose column.
This would have to be a loose tilt bowl on the steering column.
After removing the steering wheel and lock plate, you will find four inverted torx bolts that hold the tilt bowl to the column. Two will be backed way out and loose.Remove these bolts and appy loc tite to the bolt threads, then reassemble.

What do i do?

Check for tension in the drive belt. A loose drive belt would cause hard steering as well as eventually, would drain the battery. If the drive belt is in good condition (no slick or broken spots) and is tight, then the problem is more likely in the steering box.

Popping in steering on 1998 chevy pickup

Check ball joints, and those trucks are really bad about loose pitman arms and idler arms.

Loose steering wheel, 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (FSJ)

it sounds like all you need to do is as follows, remove the steering wheel and behind it inside the column you will find a couple of screws or bolts that hold the tilt steering assembly together, they have most likely come loose and just need to be retightened , I would recomend that when you have the bolts out that before you reinstall them you put on some kind of thread locker (ie) lock tite. this should solve the problem

You will have to check all the jointed steering parts for excessive play, a front end shop will most likely do this for free if they repair the issue.

These cars come with steering that is like butter, but you will hate the day the power steering goes out. If you have too much play in the steering, look for wear in the suspension. should be able to turn the wheel with barly any effort.

good luck,
