Question about 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I think it might be the starter

The truck won't turn over. All the lights come on and we tried to jump it and nothing works. If it is the starter is this something I could fix?? I am wondering if not about how much is it going to cost. The curious thing to me is that there was never the noise that so frequently comes when a starter is going out. Any suggestions?

Pull the starter out and have it tested by a Auto Zone or a Kragen, it's free

It could be the starter solenoid as well. I would take out your starter and go have it checked. If it passes then I would replace your starter solenoid. Good luck to you and thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC

Is the engine rotating? Is the battery good ? Do you have spark? Do you have fuel

Replaced the fuel pump on 97 dodge mini caravan now motor wont crank like the battery is dead. tried jumping it - nothing. All lights work bright! What did I do wrong?

I would check the starter for voltage first - there is a starter relay that is grounded by the PCM. If the ASD relay is faulty the pcm won't have power. You should have battery power to the starter and power on the solenoid when you turn the key to start.

Battery is new, engine won't turn over.

The voltmeter should only go as high as 14-15 volts when the engine is running. I would check for a poor connection between the battery and starter.

Truck has electrical power but won't turn over. I think I can hear the starter solenoid engaging. Not sure. where do I start trouble shooting?

Safety first!--Make sure you're in park & brake on-- Try shorting across the starter terminals with a screwdriver,if the bendix kicks in & nothing spins, remove the starter & put in bench vice ,(or hold down securely), & jump with cables.--REMEMBER POLARITY--If the starter spins you are in deep *******---something in the motor is probably locked up.(If the starter doesn't spin get a new one.)

2007 chevy cobalt ls won't start battery good starter good turn key nothing no click nothing all lites work on dash and radio works jumped starter with screwdriver turns. Over but won't start...

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

My 2004 330ci won't start, does not turn over. The battery is fine, all electrical in the car work fine, plus trying to jump car does not work & a green light is showing on the battery in the truck....

If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.

check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.

98 Expedition starter

When you do try and start the vehicle does the lights in the car go out or dim? Like it is sending all juice to the starter? Might have someone knock on the starter a little with a mallet or small hammer and see if it is stuck. could be a loose wire on the starter solenoid.
