What is the mostcommon reason the speedometer quits working on a 1991 Dodge D-150

Unscrew the speedometer cable from the back of the gauge and from the transmission, take the cable out of the sheath, clean it off with carb or brake cleaner, oil it and put it back in. If that doesn't do it, replace cable assembly. If that doesn't do it, pull the speedometer gear out of the transmission and check for wear. Replace if needed.

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor

Scan the system for fault codes, you could have a defective speed sensor or a defective speedo both are possible.

This is a pretty common issue with the 2005 Mustang speedometers. The reason it's acting up is because the motor that controls the gauge is going bad. There's a DIY guide on how to repair it here - 2005 Mustang Speedometer Problem

Also, you can send it in for repair to a speedometer repair specialist.

I changed the shoes on the Parking brakes on my 2005 Escalade EXT, adjusted the shoe adjusters so the shoes "just" drake when the drums are re-installed, cleaned and re-lubed the mechanical cylinders,...

The first time you use the brakes on a drum the shoes will equalize with each other. This may be the reason it doesn't seem adjusted right. Readjust the shoe adjusters till you can just hear the scrape and try again.
