Question about 2003 Toyota Camry

Rear license plate light 2003 Camry

The owners manual does not list the bulb number and cautions that the vehicle can be damaged if not changed by the dealer. Looks like access requires removing the inner liner panel of the trunk lid but I do not know what else (inside locked in trunk escape handle?
How difficult is it to change the license plate bulbs?
What part number are they?
Seems unusual thet they would meke this so difficult.

Do you need to take the emergency trunk handle off on a 2004 Camry, or can you change the bulb by pulling the cover away from the trunk? How does the bulb come out? Turning it?

The bulb number that you need is #194.
Pull off the interior trim, and you will see the sockets for the bulbs.

How do you change the license plate bulb

Generally there is an access area on the reverse side of the trunk lid, or the lens of the light itself can be removed by taking out some screws. I looked in your vehicle's service manual and it doesn't even list that light in the do-it-yourself area. You could also just call the dealership service department and ask.

Here's the link if you want to check the manual out yourself.

Hope this helps.

Rear Turn Signal, Brake and Parking Lights 1984–89 VEHICLES
  1. If removing an inner bulb, remove the license plate. For outer bulb replacement, reach from under the vehicle.
  2. To remove the inner rear brake light, you must reach behind the license place and under the vehicle to access the bulb and socket
  3. Remove the socket from the lens by releasing the locking tab and twisting
  4. Once the bulb and socket are pulled from the rear of the lens, grasp it from behind the license plate opening
  5. Then, pull it out of the side and replace the bulb
  6. Remove the bulb from the socket and replace.
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
