1993 bonnie won't start

We just changed the starter on it. The battery is fully charged. Could it be the starter relay?

With the use of a screwdriver, we can jump accross the starter and it will start for a couple seconds, We have good ground and power.

  • katrinaoakle Dec 09, 2008

    Where is the relay located?

  • katrinaoakle Dec 12, 2008

Thank you! We will try that! We just ordered a Haynes book for it so we can further diagnose if needed.

Hi I have a '93 Bonneville SSEi. Sometimes my car would not start. After trying for 3-4 times I stopped trying to start it and waited for about 10-15 minutes. I would then try to start it again and it would start. I also had the problem of driving the car and it stalling ( shutting down). I would coast to the curb or whereever I was and wait again 10-15 min. It would then start up.
I did some research and found that the CRANK SENSOR was the problem. I changed the CRANK SENSOR ( $60 ) and no more problems. It will take 1-1/2 hours for a mechanic to fix.. Hope this helps any of you bonneville owners. Darryl __

It certainly could be,or the ignition switch.Do you got good ground & power connections? Are you getting power to the starter?

THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT IS WITH A TEST LIGHT AT THE RELAY.SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING YOUR POWER AND GROUND THERE.THEN TRY IT WHILE SOMEONE IS HOLDING THE KEY IN THE RUN POSITION.IF ITS LIGHTING AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHEN THE KEY IS BEING TURNED ON OFF TO RUN...THERES THE PROBLEM.GOOD LUCK.

WHEN YOUR IN THE CAR,IN PARK,TURN THE KEY TO THE RUN POSITION.DO YOU HEAR A SMALL "CLICK" FROM UNDER THE DASH.ITS LOCATED IN THE FUSEBOX.ITS A LITTLE SQUARE BOX PLUGGED RIGHT IN WITH THE FUSES.IT SHOULD "CLICK WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY.IF IT DOESNT,ITS CHEAP ENOUGH IF YOU DONT WANT TO CHECK ANY FURTHER.JUST GET ONE & TRY IT.

I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil and now it won't start?

if the car won`t turn over then it could be a starter problem if the battery is as you say fully charged. check voltages at the starter. it could be a bad connection or starter relay.

What cause the car want start even if u jump it it just cleick

Start with the basics, here. Check that battery cables are not loose and are CLEAN, on the battery AND the starter. Beyond that, check the battery charge with a volt meter. Fully charged should be 12.5 volts or higher, you will lose starter spin at 10 volts. If the battery is low, hook it up to a charger and charge it up completely. If you don\'t have a voltmeter, go to the store and buy one. If you\'re going to try and fix things like this, you have to have one. If you can\'t do that, remove the battery and take it to someplace like AutoZone. They will charge and test the battery for free. If you can\'t take the battery out, or don\'t have a friend that can, have the car towed to your mechanic.

Here\'s the thing- I can\'t tell you exactly why, but some cars you just can\'t jump start. Happens more on side mount post type batteries. Because you can\'t jump your car doesn\'t mean it won\'t start with a fully charged battery. Now there are other things that could be wrong with you car, that it won\'t crank over and start for you.....but we begin the diagnosis with the battery.

Wont start nothing happens new battery

1. Make sure your battery is fully charged.
2. Check connections from battery to starter relay.
3. Make sure you have voltage going to the start side (small wire) of the relay with the key in the "start" position.
4. If you don't have voltage going to the start side of the relay (small wire) with key in the start positon, then your starter switch is faulty (under dash usually mounted on top of steering column).
5. If you have voltage to the start side of the relay (small wire) with key in start position, and it don't click when trying to start your car, then the starter relay is bad.
6. If your starter relay clicks, but engine don't turn over, then the starter is faulty.

If you think its the starter switch here is a picture of one uninstalled:
it should be on the upper side of steering column, and you must lower it by removing the mounting bolts that are directly under the column and lowering it down.

1993 mbz 300e won't turn over, battery full charge and buzzing noise from relay area.

hi,

the first thing that I would check is to make sure your battery is fully charged or try and jump the battery using another car battery.
if still no go then I would say that your starter solenoid is bad.
while checking the solenoid/starter double check to make sure your block to body ground cable is secure.

hope this helps,

My 1993 Buick Park Avenue just Clicks once when you turn the key on starter won't engage the battery is fine

Sounds like a bad starter or a bad battery cable connection to me. If you are certain that tyour battery is in good condition and fully charged, your battery cables are clean and tight and are making good connection on BOTH ends, replace the starter.

Trying to fix my Volvo S60 2002 model. It won't start but when I hook the jumper cables to the my battery i have all interior power. when i try to turn over the engine nothing happens except clicking....

Make sure you have a fully charged battery...clean the terminals real well.
Alternator only charges the battery when the correct engine rpm is attained.
A clicking noise could be the starter solenoid which is basically a relay / contactor but can block power from reaching the starter.
Worn brushes in the starter can also zap a battery's power.

Battery, starter and aloternator can be tested at most part stores.

From what you describe, I'd clean battery terminals and ensure battery is fully charged.
If clicking still happens, I'd move to the solenoid and starter.

Hope this helps...

My 1993 cadillac eldorado is cranking slow and i just change the alternator

If the battery is fully charged but the starter is slow, the starter may have an internal short or may just be worn out. Make sure your battery is fully charged and the battery terminals are clean and tight though before buying a new starter.

Call won't start battery charged, just a clicking sound when turn ignition on

Clicking can come from many things. Either a weak battery, weak battery connection, starter, or a relay. If you have a fully charged battery, then I would have the starter tested, as this is most likely the issue. If the starter is good look to replace the ignition relay, you can test the relay, by finding a matching one (usually the ac) and swapping them to see if there is any difference. If all that doesn't fix the problem, you will probably need to replace the ignition switch.
