Question about 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

1 Answer

Power Steering? I've had all kinds of issues with this truck and now the power steering gets hard to turn to the right only. It's not all the time and it happens more frequently when I hit the brake to take a corner. Does this sound like the pump or the rack + pinion? I thought because it's only to the right and not all the time I would try the cheaper fix of the 2 first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

2004 avalanche - right turn acts like no power steering and can hear a hydraulic/air kind of noise. Turns left with no problem full power, only happens turning to right.

There is more pressure on the line when turning right, therefor more effort is needed by the power steering pump. You either need power steering fluid added, or a new power steering pump.

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

2005 impala LS with 3.8 eng. & 61290 miles. Transmission started shifting hard on 1st & 2nd gears, just out of nowhere. Is this a common problem on Chevys? Once on open high way vehicle runs...

two things: Pressure control solenoid first. Second issue is the valve body. These are common issues, but 9 times out of 10 its just the pressure control solenoid. Power steering, could have a leak, that causes air, which in turn causes noise or yes, a noisy pump.

The power steering is not working when i turn right. Turn left no problem. Why?

If the suspension is not binding (check with both wheels off the ground) then likely there is an internal valving problem in the steering box. Sometimes changing the fluid in the unit can help but most times the box needs to be rebuilt or replaced. (cheapest option is a scrapyard part...chances of getting another failed unit are almost zero)

Steering wheel hard to turn on 325i bmw 2003

if the power steering fluid is full and belts ok but, it happened suddenly, provably the power steering pump shaft was broken.
