The belt will run around a tensioner pully some where near the top or side of the pully system and you will notic the frount of it has a square hole in the center of it ,that is the size of your 3/8 rachet or might be the size of a 1/2 inch rachet the square where you attach the socet to,well that fis in that little square hole on pully once in there you can turn the pully enough to loos the belt,,like a spring action

Need to loosen the drivebelt to remove the alternator

Follow the belt around the pully's and look for a pully that is attached to an arm. this is a spring loaded tensioner pully. on this tensioner, you can often fit a 3/8 drive ratchet directly in the back. if so that how you'll be able to release the tension on the belt. otherwise use a socet (if there's enough room) or wrench on the nut in front as if tightening. this will release the tension on the belt.

Hope this helps!

2002 crysler voyager 3.3 can't get the Alternator Belt Tensioner to move.the instructions reed as follows Release tension by rotating the tensioner clockwise. the tensioner diagram looks completly...

Either in the center of the tension pulley or arm the tension pulley is bolted to there is a square hole that a 1/2" drive socket wrench will fit in. Find the hole, put the socket wrench or breaker bar in the holy and rotate it clockwise and that should release the tension.

Tensioner on an alternator

The tensioner is on the front of the engine. It will have a pully on it, it will also be spring loaded. It will be on the passenger side and you should find a 3/8 square hole in it to release tension. You can do it with a regular socket wrench. Good Luck
