I have a 2004 honda civic and it makes a droaning noise when i change gears, coudl this be an internal gearbox fault? i also have a constant screaching noise when driving when i slighly move the steering...

Pilot bearing or a throw bearing is what makes the noise while shifting gears and as for the steering noise, you either have low steering fluid or the steering pump belt is loose.

Key is locked in the ignition

To fix your problem, you have to turn the steering wheel either to the left or right as much as you can, then try to turn the key in the ignition. When the steering wheel locks, the key won't turn. By manually holding the steering wheel out of the lock position, the key will turn again and you're steering column will be back to normal. Also try holding the brake pedal down and turning the key and steering wheel at the same time

Where s the power steering top up resivoir on my honda civic 1400 imagine??

Follow your fan belts. One of the belts operates the power steering unit. The resivor should be right there with the power steering unit. It is best to check the level when motor is cold. If it has gone completely dry then you will need to get the air out of it after adding fluid. To do this you add the fluid then turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and then back to the left several times. After the steering wheel feels smooth while turning it then you are good to go. Recheck the fluid first after you have turned the steering wheel back and forth and top it off to the mark on the level stick. Hope this helped, raz

I have a 56 plate 1.4 civic and it is pulling to the left!

If the steering saft was broken you woudnt even be able turn at all, without looking at the car, it could be a number of things, cv joint ,wheelbearings, struts, even the rim might be out balance or alignment, stabilizer bar bushing could be worn out, it would be best to take it to honda dealer to confirm the problem, but i dont understand why it would pass MOT with a broken steering shaft!

Honda Civic Steering problem

Hi Dan

You did not indicate whether you checked the fluid level for your power steering. Please check this first. Please read your owners manual for specific instructions!

You may be low on fluid.

The next step would be to check your engine belt. The power steering pump is driven by a belt. It is possible that you have a loose or worn belt that is not able to turn the pump sufficiently at idle, but when you rev the engine higher, the pump produces sufficient power. One way to test this is to rev the engine, then try to turn the wheel, see if you notice any difference. Let me know.
