Question about 2001 Land Rover Range Rover

2 Answers

I want to buy a land rover 2001 in UAE Dubai. one of the guys told me I will face a lot of problems for the electrical parts and suspension. The car is HSE type and millage is 112000 km or aroun 70000 miles. I travel around 24000 miles per year. How much I shall pay for the parts to keep it running? And is it wise to buy this one or i go for another type of cars. Regards, Ali

The car is worth about AED 32.000 if the car is neat and everything is working. Check if the EAS (but lot of RR have replaced air suspension with coilsprings) is working well and the remote central lock as well. Most private sellers provide you with Full Service History. The engines have here harsh time due to dust and sand, oil and filters need to be replaced more frequently than elsewhere.
The dealers will try to sell you the car for about AED 50.000 with warranty, which doesn't mean here much. Try to buy the car from someone you know, there is less chance he will screw you. And the maintenance is expensive if the car is not in warranty any more, if you know what I mean ;) ( Once thay wanted to replace my dashboard when one of my LEDs wasn't working )
SOLUTION: Do not buy this car and certainly not without warranty unless you know what you are doing.

If you are buying the vehicle from a dealer then they should give you a guarentee on the vehicles condition. If you are buying the vehicle privately then i suggest taking the vehicle to a dealer for them to advise you on costs and repairs needed. If you are purchasing the vehicle at a good market price then it may be worth while spending a little money getting it reliable.

Air suspension out (inactive ) code

    1. The automatic suspension system on a Land Rover must be placed in a service mode (High Lock) prior to raising the vehicle on a frame-contact hoist. This can only be accomplished by using a Land Rover Test Book Scan tool or an aftermarket equivalent.

    2. If the suspension is allowed to hang freely at maximum extension, the suspension controller will enter a fault lockout mode and disable the compressor and height sensors

    3. In addition, the suspension system will vent the suspension in an attempt to bring the vehicle to a correct ride height.

    4. Since the suspension is hanging free at maximum extension, all the air will be vented, causing the vehicle to sit at maximum low when taken off the frame-contact hoist. A Land Rover Test Book Scan Tool or an equivalent is required to reset the suspension once it has entered the lockout mode.
