Question about 1996 Toyota T100

1 Answer

1996 Toyota T100 4 cyl automatic. Both exterior door handles broken, can't find a schematic to jimmy the inside of the door. Should I pursue this route or try to wedge my way into the double glass doors in the middle of the cab? Love this truck, handles ****.

Rear door handle broken. Mazda mpv 2001. lock works fine.

The relay rod inside the door has broken (not likely), one of the retaining clips that hold it in place are broken (most likely) or the tab on the door handle assembly is broken (again not likely). to gain access you will have to remove the door panel. You did not say whether the handle you are having a problem with is the interior or exterior but to remove the door panel you will need to have the door open, you might want to purchase a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car to get the proper instruction if you have never removed one before.

Broken exterior door handle. Can't figure out how to remove old one and install new one.Seems like it ought to be easy.

Well, it is easy, kind of...
It gets released from the inside of the door. there are cables or rods attached to it that need to be released.

Broken door handle

Yes, if it is actually really broken you can look for and aftermarket door handle or go to the dealer (which will be more money of course!).
There are many aftermarket dealers of door parts all over the web, just take your time!
I bought my own chrome door handles for a old muscle car I drive and it was approx$35 total for both door handles chrome and beautiful and the door locks with fittings and 2 keys!!!

You can get inside door handle either new or used from sellers on ebay. It should be just a few dollars plus shipping. Just search ebay for "Inside door handle 1991 Toyota Corolla."

To remove the interior door panel of a 1996 Toyota camry so that

My 96 Camry LE has 9 attachments that are visible. Some have plastic caps covering the screws; others do not. There are screws at the door handle, at the forward portion(with covers) when the door is open and the back edge (small covers). As I recall, there are several friction type fasteners around the perimiter of the panel that can be removed by prying carefully away from the metal portion of the door to free up the trim panel. Once these are loose, the trim around the inside door release handle (the one you pull to open the door) can be pryed in a backward motion. Then the entire panel can be removed by pulling upward and backward at the same time (it easier to do this with the window down). Then it is a matter of disconnecting the wires attached to the various controls for the electric windows and door locks to free up the panel itself. There is probably a plastic skin covering the metal portion of the door. Carefully pull that away to expose the inner workings of the door latch mechanisim. The rest of the procedure should become easy to figure out. I have not removed the exterior door handle itself; but it is a simple mechanism as I recall. Best of luck to you.

Diagram for replacing exterior door handles

ok. first u remove the door panel(s), with the window rolled up, u will be able to see the back side of the exterior door handle. there will be three bolts, they are size 10metric. there is also a rod attached to the handle held in place by a plastic clip, remove the rod, then remove the three bolts. from the outside remove the exterior door handle being careful not to scratch painted surface. Repeat for the other door(s). Repeat this for installation.
