Question about 1998 Volvo V70

Same problem with Volvo radio

I was doing a google search for the code for a SC-816 radio for our 98 Volvo V70 and found this... there wasn't anything listed on the page where you asked your question, except that you found the solution. Would you mind sharing it? I can't find a definite answer anywhere. The only difference is that our radio said "code" and then buttons were pressed to try to get it to work, and it now says "off" and everything is telling me that to get rid of that, you need to have the key turned to position 1 with the radio turned on to change it back to code so that it'll work and THEN the code must be entered.

The problem started after a new battery was put in the car.

I have the same situation and following procedure helps me out :
1. When it says "OFF", meaning you have utilized 3 time opportunity of the code input. Like your ATM card, when you put your PIN 3 times your card will be "blocked".
2. To solve this : Turn the igntion on position "1" (yours above is correct!) but leave it for MINIMUM 12 hours. Yes, 12 hours! it is enough to make the current drain to make your battery empty ! Beware that you might prepare to jump start the car after the next 12 hour.
3. Then the radio will ask for "code". Don't have the code? ..be careful not to press any button to try and make the same mistake!
The code is written down on small sticker stuck at the bottom part of the ASHTRAY. Go and get it. and enter the code... Voilla! ..
Mine is 1998 - V70 T5 (129676Km) and still strong,fine and ..what a great car!..Good luck!

Your info is correct about what to do when it reads "OFF". As far as I know, you need to go to a dealer to get the code. They access it through their computer system with the VIN and the radio serial #.

My 2000 Volvo v70 xc's radio is not working. I

Your radio has been replaced, not uncommon for that year and the SC series of radios. The dealer will need to remove the radio (real easy to do) and has to get 2 numbers from the tag on top and query them through the Volvo DMS system. Note that if you enter the wrong code 3 times the radio will say OFF and you will have to leave the key in position 1 for up to 4 hours till the radio anti-theft resets and you can try again.

I have a 1998 volvo v70.and i don't know the radio code.

Hi,

These radio codes are not presented in radio for safety purpose and only your Volvo dealer can tell you these codes on producing the proof of ownership. These codes are generated based on your VIN number. After using the codes if it says "ERR" do not try anything else further. Remove the radio and take it to the dealer or you can write down the letters and numbers from the top of the radio and the dealer will get you the radio code with the help of those numbers.

Thank you !!

I need to find out the radio unlock code for my 2000 Volvo Station Wagon V70 Vin# YV1LZ56D442662009

Few suggestions:

1. check the owners manual to see if the number is written down or found on the Volvo cards.
2. remove the radio, sometimes folks inscribe them on the unit, don't ask why but they simply do!
3. most costly is to take it to the dealer.

I need radio code for my volvo v70 reg no; R814NAV can you help?

The radio codes are in the car's printed manuals. So, find a manual if you can. That is how I reset the one to my mom's old Volvo 740 sedan. It helped that she had underlined that part years ago, though!

Batery discorneted lost radio code on my volvo v70 no luck from volvo as car 15 years old

Hi:
The only way to get the radio code is at a dealer, and often you have to have the serial number of the radio, the VIN number of the car, and go to the service department. This is an anti theft preventative, and keeps theives from reselling stolen radios. If you have been to a Volvo dealer and done all I suggested above, then your only option is an aftermarket radio .

Hi,
Take it to a dealer because you couldnt get it over the phone. As long as it is your car take it in real quick and they will get it back up for you and it shouldnt really cost you anything.
Thanks
