i was experiencing the same problem, well i still am.
I would hear tapping, my car then over heated, had a new temp sensor put in, following that my heater would only blow cold air.
My uncle is trying to fix this problem..so we have to do process of elimination, quite frustrating.
Will let you know if the temp sensor works. Maybe that would help you if it does.

    I have the same problem!!
so it can be fixed for the most part with a new temp sensor or by checking the cables?
the engine temp is fine and same with the coolant...it will cycle form hot to cold and the vents are also clear...

That about the coolant level? Is it low (when car is hot)? If yes it might be not enough to go to the heater for cabine. Is engine temperature OK?

The temp gauge on my 2008 ram 1500 jumps from normal temp to hot checked engine the temp is fine my heater them puts out cold air and I have no heat if I shut heater off and wait a few minutes temp gauge...

It probably low on coolant. The heater will blow cold when there is not enough water (coolant) to keep the heater core full. Check the radiator (not the overflow reservoir) when it's cool.

My 1999 Chevy Malibu runs hot? It started when it overheated. We changed the thermostat, then water pump, then temp sensor gauge and the temp gauge goes high but only when the heater stops blowing hot...

Air pockets will make the guage do that, and also cause your heat to come and go. Also, a poor radiator, as in rotting, or plugged up, will cause high temperature issues.
