If your not sure whether it's getting fuel or not, can you at least hear any short hum sound from rear of car when you turn key to on position without starting it? Try this too, take air intake hose off where it attaches to yur throttle body intake. Engine off, open the plate to air inlet at front of throttle body slightly & spray some, not a lot (about 1 or 2 seconds at most) of WD-40 inside, then go around and try to start it. If it fires up & runs a few seconds, my guess is you have no power going to pump from relay, or pump is shot. Lets try this first & let me know what happens

sometimes the tank decomposes from the inside flaking off and clogging filters, pumps, etc. always a good idea to completly remove tank and flush to check for same when changing the fuel pump. if that's your problem, you will need a new gas tank

Starts then dies after 30 sec wont start every time takes about 20 min sitting before it starts again changed fuel pump but did not help at all

Have you checked for spark after it dies. It sounds like the ignition module on the side of the distributor is bad.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero won't start.

be careful on this problem, this car has a problem on the pas-loc security system,go to www.carcomplaints.com type in 2001 alero wont start.i have this same year our daughter drives.please go and check this sight out .this is not a bad fuel pump. the sec.system is flawed.it thinks the car is being stolen so it is giving a false code which is causing the fuel pump to shut down.this is a problem that gm knew about,if you have a owners man.on this car, look up the pas loc system in it.they tell you how to override it.i hav been dealing with this for years snd may have a fix that will cost nothing..

Car wont start

First, look for broken or loose wires in the ignition circuit, and the coil wires. Then try fuel filter. Then, ignition module, coil, and timing. It could also be dirty or clogged injectors.

Son's 99 Grand Am Gt has been giving starting problems.  Starts, then dies.  May or may not start again.  Tune up earlier this summer, plugs wires, etc.  Changed fuel filter. could it be the fuel...

HEY!! I had same problem and i didnt know i solved it til i put in a brand new battery! I think the battery was getting old, and the extra amps told the 'computer' that the car wasnt running and it just died at start up sometimes. the new battery must have kept the computer from 'glitching off' when we started it. and all is great now!
