The tach runs off the coil voltage. One of the tach wires would go to the neg side of the coil, I think.
You may need to look for a shop manual to get the wiring diagram.
Car clubs would be a good place to start.

SOURCE: I have a 1972 chevelle

Use pag oil with a dye. Helps finding leaks. Think you have everything you need. Put the dryer on last and keep it sealed to prevent mositure from getting in. Pump it down for at least an hour on a new system.

Some compressors come with a full charge of oil. Use the right amount of oil. Add to compressor and add a little to the dryer as well.

need some good votes, thanks

SOURCE: Car died and will not start.

there should be a ground wire going from battery neg. terminal to the body not just the engine check to see if wire there and just broke or bad connection

How to wire up factory tach for 70 ss chevelle with gauges

The original tachometer was powered from the negative side of the coil.
I don't know how many wires you have to work with, but the one that powers the tach should go to the pigtail wire on the harness for the coil - dist cap.

I needto tell me where all the vacuum lines go on my 1970 impala 400 , rochester 2bb.

Hello
Due to the age of the car we do not have diagrams available for free on the Internet. Below you will find a source for the original factory repair manual which would have all the information in it. Here is the link to the manual.
